If you're counting on hearing about PPC2k3 before you actually try it, IMO you're going to be disappointed. The most appealing upgrade is in its speed. You can't really describe a speed difference very well in text. I tried the 2215 and man, it's crazy fast!

Tonight I've just ordered £350 of hardware to upgrade my haggard pc, so until I can sell my 3850 I will probably have to wait.....
I'm betting us in the uk won't see the devices for at least another 2 weeks anyway..... :(

Well, I have upgrade-itis, so I have to get it simply for the sake of getting it anyway. :D I'm looking forward to the supposed speed increases and the revised Pocket IE myself. Anything that makes my 3970 run better is good in my book. ^_^ Plus, I managed to bend the battery contacts on my Motorola 270c back into their normal positions so that my extended battery works again. Larger amounts of time and voice minutes can now be used because I can actually maintain a Bluetooth connection for a reasonable length of time (with a half decent browser, nonethe less!). Thunderhawk is nifty, but it's a bit expensive.
Now, with a newly revised core, does this open any new paths for applications and whatnot? In theory, you should be able to 'do more' with the new CE 4.2 codebase, should you not?

I agree, I got my info from the Mobilty product manager here in NZ. I was given a approximate date of end of July.... I hope you're right...
He also said a 128 Mb version of the 2200 series was due around September/October (from memory - I might have my wires crossed here)...

Included is 64 MB of RAM (56 MB of main memory)...
That's from the Bargain PDA article (http://www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=1453&showComments=true). Disappointing. The h2210 would be just about perfect if it had more user RAM, a flip lid and a side scroll control. The other specs and the form factor are terrific.

My 2215 says I have 57.11 MB of memory I can use. I have a 256mb sd card however that I have installed every program that I have loaded onto the 2215 on (which is up to about 25 right now) and they all run flawlessly. The benifit is that I also have all my internal memory still left over. I dont see a real issue with the low amount of internal memory because I dont like installing apps to the internal memory anyways. I would rather a 128mb version though i will admit! :D This machine is so fast at opening anything that I have thrown at it. I even opened at 145mb mpeg movie from a compact flash card encoded at 30fps and I got 30.07 fps at one point watching it using pocket tv. This machine is going to kick butt in the multimedia depatment for sure! If you dont have a pocket pc it is well worth getting!

That's completely false - it's 57.11 RAM free, which isn't all that different from other Pocket PCs with 64 MB of RAM. The 5450 has 62.91 of 64, which is better, but I honestly don't see a big disadvantage in the 2215 "only" having 57.11 free. If that number was down in the low 50's, I'd complain more....

So, I assume it's not a 1 bit slot?

06-23-2003, 05:33 AM
Guys, a bit of advice about the H2215... if you want to thoroughly inspect it at Best Buy, ask them to give you one open box to play with.
Clawing around inside the cage does the iPaq injustice. You can't even locate the friggin' CF slot.
Well anyway, I'm waiting for the next update.
