Need advice on what to buy

I have found that my pocket pc is not enough for mp3's, thus i have decided to buy an ipod.

the question:

Which should i get?

1. new 10 gb ipod $299

or

2. older, refurb from apple 20 gb ipod w/ remote and case $299

I am also biased towards new stuff. There's just something satisfying about opening a box... Especially if it's shrinkwrapped.
