Hi,
Having sold my XDA (and planning on getting rid of my 3850 as well) as well as a laptop and some other bits and bats I've raised enough capital to purchase a spanking new pda.
I have my eyes on the new ipaqs but cannot find any info or preorder for the uk....
Are they being launched at the same time in the uk or am I going to have to wait a few months for them to shift over.....
I can't find ANY uk information at all....
Anyone got any info for me?
At the moment I keep looking at 5450 on expansys.co.uk and hovering my mouse pointer over the "buy" icon...... :(

They are listed on Expansys in the pre-order section although with no dat enad no price...
Also listed on the wstore site when you look at the handhelds section under the 5450 it says
Information:
iPAQ 5450 current till July 2003
iPAQ 5550 due for launch July 2003
Hopefully when they are officially released on Monday it will all become clear!!

I've noticed that my local PC World has dropped the prices on all their iPAQs and are running the stock down. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the new machines in the shops within the next few days.

Great :lol: now all we have to is get a price on it.
My guess is
5550 = £600
2100 = £400
It'll be the 2100 I'm going for. £200 isn't worth it for wifi and an extra 64mb ram.
Another thing that gets me is what's the difference between the pocket pc 2003 versions......hmmmm.....

Jack,
From what I've read of the specs, the 2100 is the 2215. Spec appears exactly the same to me. Maybe compaq have just renamed or re-branded...who knows....
All will be revealed when we get words of a uk release I assume.

Compaq have always used different numbers for the same device - e.g. 3970/3975. In the US it differentiates the retail source. In the UK we only ever get the one number.

My guess is
5550 = £600
2100 = £400
That would be a royal ripoff. The RRP in the US for the 2100 is $399, which amounts at £241 excl. VAT. With the VAT it should be £283.
I wouldn't expect it to be much more expensive than this once in UK.

Had anyone else noticed that the new ipaqs are now listed on the dabs site (http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-search.asp?action=search&refp=&mid=240&tid=230&ob=manufacturer&obd=asc&stab=ref&p=ipaq&lp=&up=&mc=&sc=&Refine.x=38&Refine.y=8)?
I was surprised to see that they had the 2210 listed for (£374.82) more then the price in dixons!
But they have the 5550 listed for (£492.32) which is about £7 less then the price they have listed for the 5450!?! Does anyone else find this strange?
Anyway I think £492 is a good price and so I have preordered the 5550 which they have listed as being available in 3-4 weeks!!!

I just found this on the HP website it seemed to have got passed me!!
UK Ipaq Press Release (http://h40059.www4.hp.com/press/archive/texts.html?id=200)
It doesn't have any details about release dates but does give the UK RRPs
Which are
1940 £299
2210 £369
5550 £499
They seem to have put an extra digit after each one but I'm just ignoring it as I'm not paying just short of £5K for an ipaq!!
Which in my opinion make the 5550 the best value for money of the lot!
Just got to wait for it to come out now!

The extra digit indicates the footnote number. The footnotes are the third paragraph from the bottom.
I think they forgot to change the font. :oops:

That makes more sense I did wonder if they were just being cautious by giving a release date of
Availability
The new HP iPAQ handheld line-up is expected to be available from 23 June 20035.

here in Newcastle nobody seems to have them (2210 & 1940)
I could only find the 2210 on display in a dixons shop in Northumberland street here in Newcastle. The sales person said that they have them in the warehouse but not in stock in their shop. He told me that i can order one and get it in 2 days.
BTW this ting seems very nice and small, not much of a diference between the 1940. Which makes my decision even harder :? which one to buy? the 1940 or the 2210??
