View Full Version : Did you here the one about the Libretto, the BIOS and the dead NIC?

I have a Compaq Wl100 wireless NIC. I recently go my hands on a Toshiba Libretto 100 - a nifty sub-notebook about the size of a video cassette. I installed WinXp on it (a little sluggish but adequate for my use), copied the WL100 drivers to the machine and plugged the card in.

Result - 1 dead NIC :(

Did a little research and discovered that the Libretto runs its PC Card slots at 5 volts. This killed my 3.3 volt card.

But the really annoying part. A BIOS upgrade would have avoided this. And to think I was only an incremental BIOS release behind (needed 8.10 and only had 8.00 loaded)

So, can I fix the NIC or should I just scrap it? :? Is it worth asking Toshiba if they'll "help" out?

TIA
