Out of curiosity. Suppose the X7 comes with everything (integrated BT, wifi, CF slot, SDIO) ... how much money are you willing to pay to get it ?

I just can't bring myself to pay more than $500 for something that doesn't run full Windows apps....

Agreed. Actually I don't get enough use out of mine to justify more then $300(with my current budget). I'm not planning on getting a new PDA until I've had this one for at least a year though so that means January. Car repair and vacation take priority over new toys :)

Yeah - I actually have a JOB starting in January, which means I may actually have some $. ;)

Dear OEMs,
Your upcoming PPCs must be less than $500, no matter how complete it is. Or we wont buy. :D

For me to spend the top dollar going for Pocket PC devices (>$600) the device must be VERY complete.
1) 3.8" or better yet 4" (like Toshiba model) transflective display
2) Integrated SDIO slot
3) Second integrated slot (either CF II or a second SDIO)
4) Integrated BT
5) Integrated WiFi
6) PXA255 with higher speed bus
7) Scroll wheel (Toshiba, old HP, etc)
8) Consumer IR (ie iPaq)
9) Biometric security (ie 54xx and 55xx iPaq)
10) 128mb RAM, 64MB ROM/safestore
11) Optional integrated 3+ megapixel camera
12) Game-playable d-pad (ie early Casio)
13) Alarm vibration option
14) Optional integrated phone module (GSM or CDMA)
15) Integrated screen cover (ie HP56x)
16) Seamless snap-on thumb keyboard (HP 56x style)
17) iPaq 19xx style form factor
18) Replaceable battery (1400mah standard, 2000+ extended)
19) USB host
20) what did I miss?

I left out all OS/App improvements and focused on hardware improvements. The hardware is the responsibility of the manufacturer and we can address OS and application issues primarily with Microsoft.

I want a lot of JonnoB's list --
3.8" or 4" transflective display
Integrated SDIO slot
Second integrated slot (preferably CF II)
Integrated BT
Integrated WiFi
PXA255 with higher speed bus
128mb RAM
Integrated phone module (CDMA)
At least 1400mah battery
If it had all that (and right now it's just a fantasy to think that anything with built-in CDMA would have all the other features) I'd pay almost a thousand dollars for it.

The type of customer that DELL wants. Indeed. :D

That doesn't change the fact that I'm not going to pay more than $500 until those two are covered. It's a combination of hardware and software that makes the unit.

True that the OS and supported apps must improved. Hardware improvements aside, the installed applications add arguably even more value to the device. I however, would take the existing 2003 OS and these hardware improvements for >$500 - but I have yet to see anyone do it and those who get close execute poorly leaving out critical parts that are important.

Just curious, do you think the X5 will still be produced when the newer models are out ?

my bet is they will, because it has sold so much and most people love them. it works for BMW 3-series 5-series and 7-series. seems to be the lucky numbers :D and i'll see products for the Axim that come out the 23rd.... hmmm..
