I have an ipaq 3635 w/ PC card sleeve. I have wireless now and was wondering the best overall PCMCIA 802.11b card for my unit. I also have a laptop that I would like to use the card with. I don't want to spend too much money so the cheaper the better for me :)

Orinoco card, either Gold (128 bit encryption) or Silver (only 64 bit encription).

Doesn't use a lot of battery power and has "the best range in the industry."

Gold one goes for about $50, whereas a generic pcmcia wifi card might only be $20, but it'd be worth it to me to spring for the Orinoco.

Orinoco card, either Gold (128 bit encryption) or Silver (only 64 bit encription).
The one thing that worried me about the Gold card was that the 128-bit encryption was RC4, not WEP. The Proxim Web site (http://www.proxim.com/products/all/orinoco/client/goldpccard/index.html) now says:

The Gold PC Card offers enhanced security, with WEP Plus, 802.1x, and 128-bit WEP employing RC4 encryption.
However, is that compatible with all routers using 128-bit WEP or only routers using WEP with RC4?

Maybe all routers use RC4 and I'm just worrying for nothing, but I'd hate to buy one and find out that I couldn't use 128-bit encryption with my router.

Here is a list of all of the Orinoco PC cards (http://www.proxim.com/products/all/orinoco/client/index.html) (plus more).
