View Full Version : Brainstorming Session for Editorial Award

Jason Dunn
06-09-2003, 04:30 PM
Ok Thoughts readers, it's your chance to help shape a new feature on the site! We want to add an editorial award for hardware and software products that meet our criteria for being great products, and great value for the money. Here's the million-dollar question:

What do we call the award?

Ideally it would have something to do with the whole "thoughts" idea, because this award will be given on other Thoughts Media sites (yes, more are coming). We don't want to have something boring like an "Editors Choice Award". My all-time favourite computer magazine is Maximum PC, and they give out "Kick Ass" awards to top products. I want to have something in the same vein - something interesting and fun! Got any ideas? The person who comes up with the idea that we pick will be given a limited-edition Pocket PC Thoughts micro-light. Ohh! Ahh!

UPDATE: Posts that are edited will be disqualified from winning the light. If you have another idea, post another message. Thanks!

Well, I'm european, english is not my main language , but this sounds cool imo :

The Think Big - Award ... although that may come too close to Think Different...but at least it's got the thought (think) idea in it...

A great award for the more crappy products would be the 'Thoughtless' award ;)

To play off the 'thoughts' thing, why not the Heart awards? Heart and Mind.

Of course, the Muse awards would tie to that too.

Or something with a little more jazz...

The Eureka! awards!

eu·re·ka ( P ) Pronunciation Key (y-rk)

Used to express triumph upon finding or discovering something.

Kinda fits what the award would be given for, doesn't it?

Something simple like "PPC Thoughtful Award."

Or you can be a little nutty like me and have a "Bust a Blood Vessel Award."

Or "I'm Glad They Thought of That Award" or better abbreviated as "IGTTOT Award."

How about "Thought-Out Award?"

"That's Thinking Award"

"I Think Therefore I Award"

"I Thought I Thaw a Putty That Award"

I'm glad someone explained was "NYIDTOT Virtual Display" actually stood for: "Now 'Y' Didn't I Think of That." Prior to then, I had a hell of a time pronouncing it.

That "Deep Thoughts" entry reminds me of the SNL Jack Handy skits... hehehe

How about the "Imagine That!" award where a product or service improves the PPC community by expanding the way we work and play with our PPCs by providing a well thought out product or service. One that takes into consideration the community of users and feeds back into the community products or services that compliments our hobby/lifestyle and extends how we use our devices.

It should really be the "wow" stuff that improves our, dare I say, "Pocket PC Experience©".

- If it doesn't work for an award, it would be a great column name.

I do like "Well Thought Of" (previously mentioned), but it probably lacks some "punch".

You could have the "IQ" awards. For products that feature both Intelligence and Quality.

Jason- are you looking for a PPC thoughts award, or a slogan for a General thoguhts award which can be used across all your not yet released sites (like digital media thoughts). I can suggest a few PPC awards, buti thought you were looking for a general one. Right?

I think its a good idea to keep the word "thought" out of it so the full name of the award "Pocket PC Thoughts' [Award]", or "Smartphone Thoughts' [Award]" or "TabletPC Thoughts' [Award]" or whatever, doesn't sound too repetetive.

And I do think the award should put some emphsis on how the award winning thing, for lack of a better word, evolves the [Device] Thoughts "experience".

Hope I am making sense.
