View Full Version : Any "Shortcut"-alikes?

I've used my old Palms through 4 generations for note-taking at conventions, I could keep up because of shortcuts (plus the WONDERFUL app, pedit)

Now, though, I have an iPaq 3650. Pocket Worm [sic] really doesn't cut it.

Are there any apps/utilities that will allow shortcuts a-la Palm, as well as some multi-clipboard phrase-picker? How about capitalization fixers?

Of course, freeware is preferred :)

I don't know exactly what Palm shortcuts are, but if you want a multiple clipboard application, CopyText (http://www.handango.com/AdminProductDetailView.jsp?siteId=1&jid=D5FF76239223649XF72853287161B811&productId=15856&platformId=1&productType=2) is free.

If you want something more extensive, there's CopyText Pro (http://www.biohazardsoftware.com/copytextpro.htm) for $4.99.

On the Palm you can make a list of frequently used expressions and call them up by writing a loop -- like the written letter "L" followed by the few letters you chose for the abbreviation.

The links you sent are similar, but you have to switch apps to get the favorite clip text. Causes big problems when blazing along taking notes...

I'll probably end up using my wife's Palm :?

Microsoft should integrate the My Text feature of Inbox and Messenger in with other applications, like Notes and Word.

I just did a Google search or two, and came up with Scrap Panel (http://www.burroak.on.ca/scrappan.html), which works as a SIP. That also reminded me of AccessPanel (http://www.developerone.com/pocketpc/accesspanel/), which is similar. Both are about $15, though.

Mytext is a nice start, but there's a hardcoded limit to the number of lines...

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of what Palm hacks are, among PPC developers especially. They're basically system message hooks. Now if we could pull off the same feat, it would be great!

Calligrapher allows you to define a string of text or an action that is executed when you write a phrase and circle it. I think they call it PenCommander. Seems to do what you want, but requires that you use Calligrapher as your SIP.

Definitely check out Fitaly. I'm pretty sure it does what you're looking for, and it's just a really really neat way to input text. Very comfortable, speedy and accurate (once you get used to it!).

The demo lets you try it for a full month, so you've got nothing to lose by trying it out.
