Problems with new memory Card

I'm very new to this Pocket PC thing. I have only had one for about 2 months now. I bought a dell axim x5.

Anyways... I purchased a Sandisk 256 MB memory card about 1 week ago and I have had some problems. It worked great for the first couple of days. Although on my 3rd day something strange happened. I first noticed it when I opened my computer and tried to access the SD memory card. The SD folder contained 100's of folder all with dots next to them. No big deal. I checked the card from the file manager built into the OS. I could still see everything. :cry:

I then decided to eject the card and put it back in. All of a sudden I get a notice saying that I need to format the disk (What, I already had lots of data on it). I did the format and found that I could once again access it from my computer.

Now whenever I try and copy more then 5 megs of information over to the memory I get a error message on my computer that says there isn't enough space on the card. After attempting to refresh the windows XP file manage to view the SD card the problem is back with all the folders.

Is this what is suppose to be happening. I am very unfamiliar with this technology and I'm not sure if I should just return it to get a Compact flash card or if I just have a bad card. Can someone give me feedback on there experiences with this card.

I'd return it. Get a better brand, Lexar or Viking. Sandisks have a higher proportion of user complaints on various PPC boards.

You might pay more for the Lexar or Vking (or Kingston), but you'd get quality.

In singapore, I observe that for SD and CF, the most popular brand is Panasonic (their retail price is much more expensive than the sandisk brand). We hardly see any Lexar or Vikings on this side of the world, out of curiosity, do you guys in europe and US commonly sees the Panasonic brand ?

With regard to your axim problem with SD card, it is actually experienced also by many people in this forum. Seems like it only affect the 256 MB sandisk only. All of my flash cards are panasonics, hence no problem with axim, but I have two 64 MB Sandisks which came with my axim (for free) .. and it did not shows any incompatibility problem with my axim.

I've never even heard of a Panasonic memory card. It's news to me.

Actually, Secure Digital cards are invented by 3 companies (sandisk, panasonic and toshiba) ... while toshiba is too busy doing other things, sandisk swamped US and Europe, while panasonic swamped Asia and Australia.
