View Full Version : Change the \My Documents\ sync folder to storage card?

I thought that I had read about attempts to change the ActiveSync registry settings from \My Documents\ to (e.g.) \Storage Card\My Documents\. I had read that it syncs once, but then resets to sync to the first, RAM location. Of course, vBulletin and phpBB search is inprecise, and I can't find the relevant threads.
... I found the setting "DeviceSyncFolder" under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\3a835083\Services\Synchronization
Has anyone experimented with tweaking this key to the Storage card?

I too would be very interested in this, and am posting here so that I am notified by email if you find out how to do this.

Take a look at PocketPC Registry Tweaks (http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/RegTweaks/).

Me too - I must have been thinking of the temporary directory for PIE or something similar.

Yeah, I look to PHM's pages first ... so many neat tips there. I found the registry item that I think points AS to the synced folders ... see above ... what I'm curious about is if anyone has actually played with that ... or am I testing new waters?

I did some testing around this and have managed to get one way synching i.e. file from desktop is saved on storage card on Pocket PC however this Storage Card file did not synch back to Desktop when changed, only files that are in the the Device\My Documents folder would. I could not find any reg key that will allow two synching with the Storage Card\My Documents folder. The key and details are in the following thread:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11645
Let me know if you take this further as I haven't had the time to look more into this.

I think that this is a worth while quest, that should be part of the core OS, but I have been very happy with Mightysync (http://handango.com/PlatformSearch.jsp?siteId=1&jid=FCBF599A753B8E6481DE22DA34BB8198&platformId=2&txtSearch=mightysync&optionId=1_2_2)
It allows you to sync back and forth with any file or folder on your desktop, from anywhere on your pocket pc.
Not bad for 5.95

Thanks Andy, had tried to find your thread (I read it in April) and couldn't. Search didn't work for me, harumph.
Sounds like something ... happens ... after you sync, that resets the Registry key to sync with \my documents\ instead of \storage card\my documents\ .... Did you note if the registry key was overwritten back to the default. Heck for all we know, AS has it hard coded to revert to syncing with files in RAM. Double-harumph.
Thanks again....

The key is not overwritten, you can keep synching and the files from the desktop will sync to storage card everytime, it's the files from storage card will not sync back to desktop. I'm assuming there is a similar key on the Pocket PC that manages this sync back portion from the device but I have not found it.
