I just orderd Haicom Multi-Mode GPS Receiver for my iPaq.

What are the best software packages for it? I would like software that can alert me when to turn while driving plus works good in the woods for geocashing.

I found these:
TomTom Navigator USA (software only) (http://www.tomtom.com/products/platform/products.php?ID=213&Language=4)
Routis™ Navigation Software for PocketPC (USA Maps) (http://www.deluo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=DE&Product_Code=RSSA&Category_Code=GS)

but neither look good for out door stuff, i want terain maps. any idea?
thanks :devilboy:

EDIT - Dont by Haicom Multi-Mode GPS Receiver, I purchased one and It fell apart. The glue didnt hold on the metal cover for more then 2 days and Semsons refused to give me a refund.

You might want to check out www.gpspassion.com if you haven't already.

Two pieces of off-road-use software I've seen mentioned there, in articles or forums, are Navio and Outdoor Navigator (coming soon). I'm not sure if any one piece of software is good for both on-road and off-road use.

SkyEye (http://www.etree.com/tech/notsofreestuff/skyeye/index.html) is awesome for Geocacheing and you can make maps online at their site from either USGS Topographic or NAPP Aerial Imagery, or download an app to make the maps yourself. Some of the map data is like 10 years old, but for geocaching it works really great (especially the Aerial maps).

Unfortunately the software only supports the Garmin protocol and not NMEA. It doesn't look like it would work with your GPS.

If all you want for geocaching is bearing/distance to the cache then the latest version of Mapopolis will fill both needs. It now allows you to enter in a lat/lon for a waypoint and then you can use the "pilot" pane to navigate to it. Of course, it won't display topo maps or sat images though.

The soon to be released Outdoor Navigator (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=773)sounds like something you would be interested in.
