Expansys, Decent or Dodgy?

I just want a few people to say "Yeah, Expansys are great: I bought a Lemon Merange Pie from them.. No problems" - well something along those lines.

As some of you may already know, dealing with companys you haven't dealt with before can be suicide, especially when Credit Card numbers are involved..

I have dealt with them a few times - never had a problem. Not the lowest prices on the block though ;-)

Expansys have some good points and some bad points (like almost everything else in life).

Good - it has a wonderful range of cool stuff. Most of its prices are pretty competitive.

Bad - their estimates of the availability of most non-stock goods seem to have as much truth as anything uttered by Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf.
If you place an order for two items they won't deliver until both are in stock and they won't hold an in-stock item. I've been in the situation where I waited six weeks because item A wasn't in stock for a week, when it arrived item B had run out (you're ahead of me here, aren't you). It seemed that the two were never going to be in stock simultaneously.

My procedure with Expansys nowadays is - If they have what I want in stock I'll order from them. If it isn't, I won't.

It depends. They are not the most competent of people, they rarely check their facts and will gouge the highest price they can in the assumption that their visibility will earn them sales before people look at more competitive sites such as Dabs.com or Insight.com. Think of them as Dixons-like! Oh and never trust a date (or any assurance for that matter) from them.

Bear the above in mind, prepare yourself to get stroppy if you need to, and you should be OK.

Frankly though - www.insight.com and www.dabs.com will generally do you better deals for most PDA related stuff and www.valuemedia.co.uk for cheap but good memory cards.

If you do choose to go Expansys - never take them up on one of their mobile phone packages...

I got a couple of CF cards and a SD card from them it was quick and efficient... and almost painless
