I had already submitted it as a news item for possible inclusion on the home page, but I guess it hasn't made it up yet.

I also submitted information on a new PDA site (http://www.inges-pda.net/ppc2003_update3.html) which claims that only the iPAQ 3900 and 5400 series will be able to be upgraded. If that's true, I won't be a happy 3870 owner.

Or maybe Jason knows that that date is false, and thus refuses to post it. Hm... :?:

Ditto. I still have my old trusty 3635, and Microsoft (and HP?) better not fail us now by excluding us older iPaq owners.

Well I hope my Dell X5 Advanced will be able to be upgraded.

I don't see why not, both Dell handhelds have at least 32mb of ROM space. You have nothing to worry about. It's us PPC users with 16mb ROMs that are hoping for upgradability. :|

I read the same thing on another site Click Me (http://www.ppc-welt-community.de/showthread.php?s=a748113122be28ff7d7af0ba22d27bbc&threadid=27032) (in German)

Given the way the size of MS operating systems increase with each release, I wouldn't expect 2003 to fit in a 16MB ROM....

Well, I can certainly understand why they wouldn't support 16 MB ROM machines. Those of us with iPAQ 36xx models did get a Pocket PC 2002 upgrade, but even that didn't fit completely in ROM.

I think a reasonable expectation for a PDA owner is one OS upgrade before having to upgrade to a new device, and you've had that.

Also remember that even if Microsoft puts out a version for 16 MB ROM machines, HP may not. If both Microsoft and HP do allow an upgrade, you should count your blessings. :-)

My HP Jornada 568 has 32mb rom. Why no upgrade? Charge me $29.95. That would probably cover the cost of ROM flash dev.

I wonder if the upgrade for an iPaq will work?

More to the point - Jason and co. are under NDAs so they can't post it. Even if Janakh or Crystal were to post it as a rumour there could be issues because of the NDA the others are under...

As for the date itself - Brighthand have the same source that I had - namely a very trustworthy one that gives good reason to believe the date given... :)
