PPC Techs has been upgrading RAMs and ROMs of many portable devices for many years and Axim X5 Advanced is the latest addition to their list of upgradeable devices. This is great news for Axim users not only because of the benefits this upgrade provides, but also because of the fact that third party developers and vendors are finding Axim and its user community one of the hottest market opportunities they need to focus on. I have been feeling this heat developing quite rapidly past couple of months. You will be surprised to find out how much inquires, requests and supports Aximsite.com gets from many different vendors. I personally believe that this announcement by PPC Techs is the undeniable proof that Axim has now gained a significant amount of Pocket PC market share that have long been dominated by HP (or Compaq if you will) and Toshiba."<br /><br />Aximsite has written an incredibly detailed article on the RAM upgrade offered by PPC Techs. If you want more RAM in your Axim, check it out!

I know that they sometimes offer additional services when they do a memory upgrade - at least they used to for the iPAQ (like clean and re-seal the screen when the dust issue was bad). I was wondering if they could provide a fix for the mushy D-pad for a small additional fee. If they did that, that would make getting a memory upgrade more worth while for me. Just a thought, anyway.

How come they were able to offer this upgrade for a lesser price compared with some other Pocket PC? Is the work disassembling the Axim plus installing an additional RAM that much different compared to others?
Just asking.

Jornadas and Ipaqs cost $299 for the same apparent upgrade.

The Jornada requires that we use 512Mb chips which are extremely expensive. The same issue with the iPAQ native & XDA.
With the Dell, we can simply add 64MB to the top of the existing 64. Which is much cheaper.
We can stack the chips on the iPAQ 36/37/3800 which is cheaper just like the Dell. We include the stylus lock and 2nd day shipping on the ipaqs, which increases the cost slightly.
Pricing all depends on the difficulty of the upgrade (tech time) and cost of the parts.

Would it be possible to get a screen cleaned and sealed? I have an e740 and would like to know how much that would cost.

We haven't cleaned one before, but it shouldn't be a problem. We charge $50 + return shipping for cleaning/sealing.
