Has anybody found a way around Avantgo’s error “Device components missing or out of date” when trying to sync? I downloaded and installed the software from Avantgo and still have the same error. I paid the $20 for their support a month ago and did not get the answer in the 30-minute session that your $20 pays for. I started getting this message out of the blue about 3 months ago. I have performed a hard reset and installed everything with the same error returning. I know that a soft reset will work, but I never had to do that in the past. I quit using it but still try it every now and then to see if the problem was fixed. I know that other people have posted that they have the same problem, but has anybody found a fix to this little annoying problem?
Thanks,
Robert

I have this same problem as well. I've tried uninstalling/installing AvantGo, soft reset my device many times, reboot my desktop, prayed, and still can't get past this error. I've downloaded and tried the latest version from their website. And I have a Toshiba e750.
I've given up and relied on Journal Bar for the time being, but would still prefer to get AvantGo working since there is much more content there. I do have other conduits installed in ActiveSuck (i.e. Cash Organizer MoneySync, Stock Manager), so maybe some of those are conflicting with the AvangGo conduit??? :?

I was having this problem as well. A soft reset fixes this, by the way.
At first I thought it was the Cadenza mNotes app that was causing the problem, but then thought maybe it was ActiveSync running on the PPC. I would close that before syncing and that seemed to work - for a while, that is, when it started getting the error message again.
I think that I have found the problem: I typically keep Pocket Informant running in the background. Today I started closing it and noticed that each time that it was closed, AvantGo synced perfectly.
If you are running PI as well, try closing it and then syncing.
If that turns out not to be it, I am thinking of unloading Journal Bar next.

I also get this error, but it seems to occur when I reconnect my iPAQ 3870 to its cradle after a period of absence. I got this error in ActiveSync 3.6, and I think I've gotten it since upgrading to 3.7, although I can't swear to it.
I have Pocket Informant, so I thought I'd test your hypothesis. I ensured that PI wasn't running and synchronized. Then I started PI and initiated another synchronization by clicking ActiveSync's Sync button. That worked fine. I then removed the iPAQ from the cradle and reconnected it. Again, the sync went fine.
So it appears that it's not Pocket Informant. I don't run Journal Bar, so that's not likely the cause, either.

I'm not sure, but I think most of the problem lies with the AvantGo servers. I've been getting this error a lot lately, but a soft reset always takes care of it.
I have NEVER installed an AvantGo update since the disaster I had with the PPC 2002 update. Never again.

I can sync once fine, disconnect, and then AvantGo does not sync moments later. It's not timing.

Try this: Do a sync with PI running, then disconnect. If you do not get the AvantGo error, try another sync right away. For me, this is what seems to cause the repeatable AvantGo error - a successful sync first, then it errors the next time or two later. At least this afternoon it did. I'll test again tomorrow.

I don't need to try that. I just got the error last night without Pocket Informant running. That implies that Pocket Informant is not the cause.
This wouldn't be a big deal, but it seems to prevent Microsoft Money from synchronizing, too.

I, too, periodically get this error on my e750/AS 3.7 setup. A soft reset, as it turns out, does not always fix the problem. However, I can leave the e750 in the cradle, come back a few minutes later, right click on Avantgo in Activesync and select Synchronize, and everything will work fine. I'm inclined to think the problem is @ the Avantgo end.

Just like Brad, I have similar problems on a Casio E-200 (AS 3.6 first and then 3.7).
It has been happening for aproximately 2 months.
A soft reset is the only solution and always solve the problem : how do their servers are concerned? That's the question..

I must be lucky, because I can definitively confirm the PI link.
I've been syncing all day, no problems. As a test, I started PI and put the Axim on the cradle. Get the "components" error message. Close PI on the Ax while still in the cradle and hit the "resolve" link - still no go. Click the "Sync" button on AS - still no go. That's with PI closed.
Pull the Axim from the cradle and put it back in and AvantGO works fine.
Strange, but at least I know what to do without having to soft reset all of the time.

I started getting this error msg out of the blue and it perplexed me. I do not have PI installed on my system so I think we can agree that it is on Avantgo's End. The soft-rest did not help me much. My only fix has been to put the Avantgo Connect icon in my start-up folder. It is inconvient clicking OK at each start up, but I have not gotten this error since I've done this.

How many of you have ActiveSync 3.7? They have a note on their website about AvantGo problems. http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/activesync37.asp
This was not the case for me; it happens in 3.6, and I did not install any updates to AvantGo.

I have ActiveSync 3.7, but no AvantGo upgrades. I also had the problem in ActiveSync 3.6.

Having same prob with 3.7 - most current AG version doesn't fix prob.
Soft reset is a quickfix but PIA.
Noticed that if prior to doing AS I have been running PIE or Thunderhawk or NetFront3 I ALWAYS get that "missing components" error - even if all programs are "supposedly" closed. Maybe some residue in RAM just befuddles AvantGo? Didn't ever experience this in 3.6
