I really appreciate the heads-up on the freeware apps Crystal.

Neat app!
What's the plugin that shows the forecast? The bottom one looks like Journal bar, but what's the one on top?

The weather thing is Stocks and Weather Today (http://www.rdfo.com/st/themes.htm). I won it from PDA Corps (http://www.pdacorps.com)! :D :D :D

That's it. I'm sick of having to pay (I know it's only $10, but I'm stingy, I mean, frugal!) for apps like the weather thing... :deal: :microwave:
I'm writing my own!!!!!!!!!

crystal,
why the date on the today screen and the top menu bar? i always look to streamline the info as space is so precious. i always wonder why people have it like that...
just a thought.

I have the date in the menu bar so I can see what the date is when I'm working in an app.

Thanks for the TREAT Crystal - very kool and useful.
As an aside - it does not work with Animated Today screens as far as I can tell.

Wow! I guess I'm a minimalist compared to most of you guys in terms of today plugins. I only have Birdsoft Batterywatch on mines. I see Crystal's today page Zoiks! 8O
Good app though, I'll prolly end up using as I pan to put more junk on my today screen

But it still does not tell us what color your shoes are from France

Gee, Crystal, can't thank you enough for this one. I had started, long ago, to just search for plain backgrounds because by the time I loaded it up with my desktop icons, it was no use.
I had a beautiful Today Theme with Jesus on it, but by the time the icons covered Him up, you couldn't recognize who it was.
(Your Today Page looks pretty much like mine, however if you would like a monthy calendar added, try this one: "Today Cal" by RoboMagic. You have the option of the previous and next month to show, too.

I have mixed feelings about Today screen plugins. I like having a nice, clean screen.
But I tend to be oblivious to things, so it's nice to have the Today screen plugins to bring me back to reality. For instance, I almost never knew what the weather was going to be (I don't watch TV), but since I won that Stocks and Weather program I installed it in my Today screen and now I have a better idea how to plan my week! Also, I'm trying out Cash Organizer right now and I have that on my Today screen. I feel weird about having my money stuff out there for anyone to see, but on the other hand it's really helpful having my account balances right there in front of my face. (I tend to run out of money otherwise! )
Another thing I guess I need is a plug-in that will show several days' appointments in advance, and ESPECIALLY one that'll list tasks.
But then you get the scrolling Today screen, which I think is just profoundly, deeply wrong.
Hmm, what to do :|

What you need is another freeware app called tAgenda. I love it as it is highly customizable and shows both upcoming appointments and tasks. There is a thread on the topic here (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1844).

I keep the date in the menu bar, but I took it off the today screen (since it's already viewable there in the menu bar). Perhaps he wasn't asking "Why do you bother with it in the menu bar?", but rather "Why do you bother with it on the Today screen?"

OK - I must be slow - how do you install this. When I unzip the file, I get 00ReadMe.001, NOPLUG~1.002, and NOPLUG~1.000. Now what? I opened the readme with notepad and I saw his text, but what do I do with the other 2 files? Thanks. :?

Copy it over to your ppc and click on it. It should unzip on your ppc. Then click on the icon in your program menu whenever you want to turn it on and off.

I installed tAgenda, and I like the way it displays, but that thing is slooooow as molasses. It slowed my whole system way down.
Can anyone recommend any other apps that do something similar? A combination of appointments & tasks for up to a few days ahead would be ideal.

I copied it to my PPC, clicked on it, it unzipped & installed but it does nothing. :? DOH! Could it be that this won't work with my Jornada 548? Even with current versions of facelift and thememaster? :?:

That's odd. I've been using tAgenda for at least six months now and I've never experienced a slowdown. How much do you have it set to display?

Go to Start > Settings > Menu and check No Plugins Today.
From now on, you can activate the program from the Start menu.
Hope this helps a bit.

You might want to email them and ask if it's been tested for earlier versions of pocket pc. On their website it says for pocket pc 2002, but who knows. That's kind of a bummer if it doesn't work on pocket pc 2000. :(

If you're looking just to show your today screen minus plug-ins, another option is to create a link to the image using html: (without quotes)
"<A HREF="file://\Windows\tdywater.gif">TODAY SCREEN</A>"
This, along with links to Avantgo and a few other things I store on my storage card are listed as links on my home page when explorer starts up. Click on the link and your today screen appears.
Also, I embed a smaller version of the today screen on my start page with html:
"<IMG SRC="file://\Windows\tdywater.gif" HEIGHT=80 WIDTH=70 ALIGN=CENTER>"

Actually it does work on my classic Jornada 548! :D Just had to wait for thememaster to load my next theme. Not as instant as I would like it to be, but it does work. Still have no reason to update to a PPC 2002. :| Thanks for all your advice guys!

You might want to look at ScaryBearsoftware's Quick Agenda.
I have been using it for awhile and I am very happy with it
along with the "No PlugIn's Today".

There's TaskPlus (http://gkokot.free.fr/ipaqp02.htm) and Calendar+ (http://www.mohairsofa.com/main.aspx?page=7&article=26). However, a rumour exists that Pocket Informant will eventually have today plugins available, if you use PI. As for Agenda Fusion, I quit using that long ago.

Since you have Themes Edition of Stocks & Weather Today loaded you might know the answer. Doesn't S&WT change the background theme based on current weather? If you have all the plugins hidden does it still do this? In other words, does the background image appear to just change all by itself when the plugins are not displayed?
If so, this would be way cool.

I have the Themes feature of S&WT disabled. I already had >100 themes loaded into my PPC, and I didn't feel the need for more (weather-based) ones.
So, the answer is, I don't know. Sorry I can't answer your question!
I think S&WT does have a demo version, however.

I love the current version, and have been waiting eagerly for 1.1. Unfortunately, the web site has shown the "under development" message since about the same time as the Pilgrims arrived.
it clears your Today screen of plugins with one tap.
