<a href="http://www.spritesoftware.com">http://www.spritesoftware.com</a><br /><br />Sprite Software has released a minor update to their awesome backup application. There are two major issues addressed in 2.1.<br /><br />• Backup File Management - You can now tell Pocket Backup to automatically restrict the backup folder to a preset MB level or to only keep X backup files.<br />• You can now create self extracting restore files without having to use autonaming restore files.

I've just tried twice to download the file... it seems I keep getting 2.01 still, not 2.1, I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

I don't know why anyone would want to be a smartypants about posting a proper link, then posting no link... seems an odd waste of time. Here's the page for when you have already got the full version, and just need to download the update 2.1 file.

Worked fine for me, getting version 2.1.

Clear your cache. It is possible you are linking to their 2.01 update because of an old html file in your IE Temp files.
I went to http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/download_backup.html then put in my email and submitted. The download started automatically.
Finally, be sure you are installing it to the same place you installed it the first time. AS is so annoying when upgrading because it doesn't make any attempt to redirect upgrades, and it knows they are upgrades because it can see the app on the device and usually asks about reinstalling, to the original installation folder. I can't tell you how many upgrades I've done and wound up with two copies. This could be your problem Tekguru - your shortcuts still point to the old one while the new 2.1 files lay happily dormant on your machine somewhere else.

Hi Ed, got it down on the third downloaed. I had cleared caches in between, as I'd thought of that one. I think for some reason the install had just gone duff. In there now so I'm happy, just one of those things I guess.

I didn't install mine, as I am unsure as to whether we are supposed to uninstall our current version and then install the new, or install the new one over the existing version.
Anyone??
Thanks

I did not uninstall anything, I just told it to repair it and it installed the latest and greatest.

On installation select "Repair" option instead of "Modify" and you will get 2.1.

I uninstalled the 2.01 version using Remover in the iPAQ (dang, still no MIPS version!), initiated the install/repair/reinstall thing without the iPAQ connected, then copied out the three relevant CAB files to a card and used CabInstl to place the program on an SD card in my chosen folder, again. Worked fine, and of course the registration of the program remained intact, as that stuff stayed in the registry. (Remover doesn't quite remove everything.)
2.1 offers a couple of very cool options, especially nice for me is the definable limiting of backups/backup size allowance. The new animated thing during backups seems a bit silly, but didn't slow things inordinately.

Can Pocket Backup be installed to File Store, or is it better to install it to Main Memory?

Sprite people did some rather lengthy analysis of the results of my log files and reports, stuff generated while testing on my 3835 iPAQ, and they found that there is a very odd set of behaviors with the file system regarding the \iPAQ File Store in the 38xx series. This does not affect later models, so if yours is a 39xx or 54xx it is probably fine to install there. But I would rather strongly advise against such an installation on any 38xx model. Largely this relates to the fact that the File Store gets read long after reset stuff in general, and this delay can cause problems with PocketMon if this plugin is activated. There were other problems relating to preset backups and such.
I currently have it installed to an SD card, with no problems at all. It should be noted though that Pocket Backup dumps copies of much of itself to \Windows, so regardless of chosen install location it is actually going to hog quite a bit of main memory, and there appears nothing one can do about that. PocketMon is well over 600KB, and the various other DLL files are pretty big too.

I have mine installed in the file store with no ill effects.

Just downloaded, but haven't yet booted up the PC to unpack the next version... I spotted version 2.1.1 linked from eiTsoftware this afternoon, so there must have been something they left out of 2.1.

Ahah! For one thing, it seems now to support Win98SE for Activesync-connected Pocket Backup functions. The PC control panel thing and startup loading was quite a surprise to me, as I just assumed they were staying with the newer PC OS versions. Looks like I might have to test this, see if it's at all useful for me. So far, in almost three years and a number of Activesync versions I have never seen a backup complete successfully. If this works, that's a major breakthrough, especially for folks who can't yet afford a CD or SD card.
