I went to epocrates.com to download a free version of their software, only to find that it is available only for Palm operating systems. Has anyone seen a similar product available for PPCs?

You must have misread something, Epocrates (https://www.epocrates.com/catalog.do?catalogmethod=showProduct&product=3&node=Epocrates) is available for Palm OS and Pocket PC* handheld devices; compatible for users of PC/Windows and Macintosh computers. The even have a Special Offer (https://www.epocrates.com/hpoffer.do) for a discount hp iPAQ when you buy the program. :D

What I think he means is that according to their website, the FREE version of ePocrates Rx is only available for Palm. ePocrates Rx Pro, the $50 commercial version is available for Palm and PocketPC.

:drinking: Guess I must be drinking too much if I don't understand the question...
On the other hand, I don't know how useful the FREE version is since what you need are the regular updates of the underlying database without which the program is not very useful for a medical professional. For home/personal use it should be adequate.

The free version does include the database updates. It does not include support nor some of the little extra's that the pro version does. It's basically just the base Rx database.

Thank you for your replies. My original post was not clear as to what I wanted. I am looking for similar products offered by other companies/organizations. Anyone seen anything like that in their Internet wandering? Updates are useful, and I am willing to pay for the service. I am looking for something that doesn't cost $50.00 per year, that is a bit expensive.

There are no real free drug database programs (let me know if you find 1, because I have been looking). If you get han-d-base or some other database programs you can find some free drug databases but you need to pay for the original program. If you look Here (http://www.medicalpocketpc.com/software/drug.shtml) You will find some info about some drug programs. There are some decent drug programs but almost all of them are at least $50. :( Very, very frustrating.

There are 2 options that I know of:
1. Free PDR at www.pdr.net - updates with sync, a pretty large subset of the PDR - free to MD's and some other providers I think.
2. Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopia at www.tarascon.com - the one we used in med school. This was free in beta recently and seemed the same or better than the paper version. No updating with sync, just stand-alone program.
