I've never owned a pda but it's nagging me in my backhead all the time. Thing is I'm going to Japan in two weeks and I will probably get myself some sort of pda (ppc) while being there (for about two months).

I've been thinking about something along the lines of the iPaq h1915 and hopefully get a pxa255 inside (but let's not go down the "pxa 255, is it in there or not" road for now). It's also small and affordable. Though the h2200 and the h1945 seems to be around the corner so I might wait for those (or get a whole different one if I get a good price somewhere in the area of where I'll be staying).

I hope to use the ppc as an organizer/memo pad, for watching the occasional movie on, gaming and last but not least for musicmaking light with Griff (http://www.planetgriff.com). :D

Does hp usually release its stuff in the US first or will Asia get it at the "world launch date" as well? I hope to stay there until the beginnging/middle of August.

Buying in Japan will my only choice be a Japanese UI or is it possible to make it english? I'll probably get pass the language barrier as I'm studying (currently beginner though!) the Japanese language but it would be nicer with an english GUI.

Is it a stupid thing altogether, planning on buying it in Japan? It's one expensive country for sure, but I was under the belief that one can find very good deals on electronic stuff there?

I live in Sweden btw, here pda's seem to cost US$100-150 more than what they do in the US...yay.

well, from what i've heard, japan isn't the cool-gadgets-for-a-fraction-of-the-price country any more.
why don't you look around europe? (in austria, the h1915 is at €399)

anyways switching languages is a relatively tedious task, you can't just flash a different language onto the japanese one.

i know it can be done for the fsc pocket loox 600, so i guess it'll be possible with other devices as well.

I guess I'll have to look around real hard then... Honestly I'd hate to have to pay as much as €399 (or about US$460...) for a 1915 knowing it's about €140 less in the US but what can you do... If the 2200 makes its entrance before I leave Japan I'll have a hard look at that one as well.

I was hoping it would be a trivial task to change language obviously not so, oh well...

Worst case scenario would be to import it since even that, including shippingcosts, would probably save me a few swedish kronor/US$. Although I'd most definitely would have to pay an infinite amount of import tax in the end...heh.
