I just got my dell yesterday and a 1 gig cf card today. So today I started messing around with multimedia stuff. Thats where all of the coolness stopped. I have been loading a bunch of mp3s on my cf card and when I play them through wmp on my ppc I get pops crackles skips and freezes. When I plug the cf card into my computer and play the same mp3 rom the cf card it plays like a champ. I have no idea how to get winampaq to work any body that can give me a step by step install would be appreciated. now onto video..... I installed mvp8 something and pocket tv as well but I can't seem to play any of my avi files or my episodes of voyager and smallville. I know I will have to convert them but what is the best way? I am kind of dumbfounded and sick about this because this is my first foray into pocketpcs. Help a brother out

thanks

I suggest you use PocketMVP (http://www.pocketmvp.com) to play your MP3 and DivX files. You shouldn't have any audio problems with PocketMVP as you might with WMP.

As for playing video, you should encode the files into DivX-encoded .avi files. Check the threads in the Multimedia forum for in-depth guides and suggestions.

in regards to your pops and crackles, are you using headphones or the PPC speaker? If its headphones check them out to see if maybe they are going out on ya. I have experienced skipping on WMP on my casio e200 but that was when i have about a dozen other programs running in the background. A simple soft reset fixes that in a snap. One other thing, check your 1GB CF card. Did you buy it retail or online? Sometimes, though not nearly as common as it used to be, items purchased online can be in bad shape, especially if you got it off of ebay, a 1GB microdrive especially can feel the pain of age if it is heavily used and dropped alot. Regular flash cards do not suffer this to the same extent but microdrives unfortunately do. If you got it off of ebay you probably had little issues with the card moving files around on it from the pc but if it is having some issues it may not be as friendly when moving all around on a handheld, likely in the upright position vs flat and rested in a card reader. I may be off here but that might be a good place to start. Just trying to help. Good luck. Have fun with your PPC. Welcome to the best of mobile computing. :)

The mvp does fix the problem with mp3 playback but for some reason some of my mp3s are still only being played by wmp any way to change that? I am also still looking for a newbie walkthrough on how to encode my downloaded videos to divx. Any linkage? I have searched the forums but they make the assumption that I have some knowledge about this and I don't. Sorry to be that guy that jumps into this and tries to do everything but hey this thing kicks ass.

I've seen at least 5 different threads on how to encode video. Did you check the Multimedia forum? If you don't see it there do a search in the Software forum I think, I know there's a couple of good ones.

Try this (http://www.pocketmatrix.com/guides/dvd2divx/#converting).
