<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.tigerdirect.ca/' target='_blank'>http://www.tigerdirect.ca/</a><br /><br /></div>A momentous occasion recently happened on the Canadian technology scene, and most people didn't notice it: MISCO, a long time mail-order catalogue technology vendor, has become part of the Tiger Direct empire, and that means Canadians now have access to a good deal of the Tiger Direct catalogue, without the painful cross-border taxes. I'm putting together a package on their site right now, and I thought I'd look at what PDAs they had to offer. Look what I found:<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/tigerdirectpdas.gif" /> <br /><br />They have an iPAQ that's only 0.5 inches wide? Wow - talk about portable! The screen sure would be teenie-weenie. 8O And a Sharp Zarus Pocket PC with a built in keyboard? Amazing! Operators are standing by...<br /><br />What are some of the best/funniest Pocket PC advertising flubs you've seen?

A different price on the blurb (US$) and in the actual AD (CAN $) above it which is a nice little way to confuse a customer.

No! There's a really long beach north of the US, that runs from around M to WA. That's why it is such a smooth curve. I know this for a fact because a contractor at my former client told me so...and his rate was half of mine, so he had to be right.

He just wondered why no one ever talked about visiting the beach that was oodles longer than the one in Arizona...

Then there are all the questions about igloos, snow, do we have electricity, what's it like to live in a country that has no freedoms, why is my English so good, etc.

This was the funniest and BEST screwup AFAIC...

Dear Customer,
We are writing you in regards to your recent online purchase.
Dell has become aware of a pricing error on our website for our Dell Axim X5 handhelds. The incorrect pricing of $89.00 CANADIAN for the 300MHz model and $118 CANADIAN for the 400MHz model resulted from a technical issue with one of our database systems. We endeavor to provide current and accurate pricing information at all times on our website.
Nevertheless, such errors do occur. The actual pricing for the 300MHz and 400MHz models is $379 and $549 respectively, exclusive of shipping and applicable taxes.

Accordingly, your order and all orders for Dell Axim X5 handhelds with incorrect pricing will not be processed.

... otherwise today I wouldn't have my beloved Ax 5 Advanced!

Before I decided to buy a Pocket PC over Palm, I was planning on getting a Zire 71 for $300. Since the Zire 71 and the Tungsten C were released the same time, some small online vendor mistook the $500 Tungsten C for the $300 Zire 71, and mixed up the prices. I jumped on the deal and ordered one, but they canceled my order.......****ards......

Yep. I can't help but laugh at my uncultured friends who brag about Budweiser or MGD as being "a man's beer". Those fools don't even know what real beer is. Some of the smaller Wisconsin breweries like Leinenkugels and Burghoff are quite good, (anybody remember Schlitz?), but I love German beer (partly because my family is German). Steve! FYI. Just checked in with my knowledgeable beer mate, Alex... who is from UK and in Toronto.... may be of interest...

Noel says:
Hey Alex.... have you see Thaeakston's anywhere in Toronto?
Noel says:
Theakston's
Alex says:
not on draft
Alex says:
but cans are very good too
Noel says:
y
Alex says:
although Theakstons no longer Theakstons
Noel says:
?
Alex says:
Theakstons was sold to Scottish & Newcastle and is now mass-produced.
Noel says:
did it change I wonder?
Alex says:
They just brew a few barrels at the original brewery so they can con people with the 'brewed in Masham, Yourshire' thing
Noel says:
so just for locals?
Alex says:
y.
Alex says:
The real stuff (which you can get over here) is 'Black Sheep'
Noel says:
McBeer
Noel says:
?
Alex says:
This is one of the brothers who refused to sell, but was outvoted by the rest of the family, so he quit and set up a brewery across the street (hence the name......) brewing to the original recipe
Noel says:
Black Sheep IS original Theakston's?
Alex says:
Basically
Noel says:
on tap?
Alex says:
not likely
Alex says:
real ale doesn't travel that well
Noel says:
true
Alex says:
you are much better off with Wellington County on handpull here
Noel says:
but you can buy bottles?
Alex says:
e.g. Bow & Arrow, C'est What, Queens Head, Pour House
Alex says:
bottles yes
Alex says:
why do you ask?
Noel says:
There is a thread in a Forum going on which devolved into "beer talk" and one member in US remarked how much Theakston's kiccked! http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12426&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60

Since we are on the subject here are my favorites:

Canadian Beer - Creemore Springs - http://www.creemoresprings.com & La Fin Du Monde - http://www.unibroue.com/

Belgian Beer - Huyghe Delerium Tremens & Hoegaarden.

Delerium will knock you off after the 2nd bottle (14% alcohol). You would need around three of La Fin Du Monde (9% alcohol) to get the same affect.

I'm really happy that this thread has been fun and light-hearted, so please resist the urge to respond to some of the jabs that people have put in. And to the people putting in these jabs, please, don't ruin this thread - focus on the POSITIVE and ignore the negative ok?

For Steve... (and ME!) Don't be depressed! Let's check it out! :drinking:

I still miss the good old days when small commercial beers were popular. Remember Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, or Chief Oshkosh? Gone forever.

The only thing Budweiser is King of is advertising. :devilboy:

I can't believe that more people aren't speaking up for Canadian beers. I'll grant that the big breweries (Molson's & Labatt's) have limited flavour differentials, but some of the micro and not so micro breweries have good stuff.

Thanks to my travels (work related), and work environment (ex-Navy personel), I've had the oportunity to taste lots of beer. On a per-capita basis, I would guess that Victoria, BC (Canada) probably has more micro-breweries than any other city I've been to. If you ever go to Victoria, go to the Swan's its got these beers  . You wouldn't believe the labels ( Oatmeal Stout, Burnt Moss, etc...) Well the Burnt Moss beer was okay for the first half-pint, but the back end of the glass was pretty chewy.

There's also some interesting brews in Québec, La Maudite, La Fin du Monde, La blanche de Chambly, etc...

Sleemans is also generally acceptable, providing more flavour than your average Blue, or Export. What's with the Ice beers, and the dry beers. Yes the alcohol buzz is fine, but what if you actually like the taste of beer?

Walking into "The Beer Store" is such an adventure, look at the wall and order something flavourful, get off the beaten path.

Next time you're in Bavaria, check out my favorite - Andechs (http://www.andechs.de/englisch/brauerei/biersorten/index.html). It's the name of a village and the name of the beer brewed by the monks at the Andechs Monastery. Almost all German beers are good (****burger being one exception ;-) ), but this one is far and away the best, IMO.

Anybody had Flowers in the UK?

Never had that one, but I did like Old Speckled Hen. A little watered down, but it had an unusual flavor.

You have to try weissbier too, by the way - made with wheat. REALLY good.

Weissbier is excellent, especially in warmer weather. I don't recommend it in cold weather, but that's just me. An acquired taste, for sure...

Since we are on the subject here are my favorites:

Belgian Beer - Huyghe Delerium Tremens & Hoegaarden.

Never heard of the Tremens, but have you ever had a Grimbergen or a Leffe? More monk beers that are nothing less than excellent. Also like Quack (sp?),

Man, do I miss Belgium... :( Especially Brugges.......

Boy do I agree, spent a week there on business. The food was good, and the beer plenty. Holland is also not bad for beer, spent three weeks in Den Helder.

The Leffe experience is great, not your usual taste for beer. We have a couple of pubs near work that offer it. I'm not certain if it's brewed in Canada or imported, but it still tastes good, as does the Hoegaarden. It's amazing what you can find to drink when you're looking for it.
