Hey, does anybody know how much more battery power the bass boost for the ipaq eats up, if any?

I don't think it would make any difference - the amp uses a set power rate at a set volume, regardless of frequency. AFAIK anyway.

I'm pretty sure Jason's right (i.e., bass boost is a DSP function) and besides, audio is not anywhere near the biggest drain on a Pocket PC (the processor and display are the two biggest power draws).

I managed to blow three of the four crappy stock speakers in my old car a couple weeks ago when playing some music on my h5455 via an iRock FM transmitter (http://www.myirock.com/players/default.asp). I had the iPAQ's bass boost all the way up and also had the bass on the car stereo maxed. At the beginning of "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence (http://www.evanescence.com), there are two moments where there is some very low bass for about three seconds each. Since I essentially had two bass boosts going, it did some pretty nasty things to my old stock speakers. D'oh!

The moral of the story: Unless you have a nice system that can actually handle very low frequencies, don't use the bass boost for anything other than headphones. :)

8O Weren't the speakers struggling to replicate earlier bass lines?

(If you need another song that'll do the same, try Life by the Beta Band (http://www.betaband.com/ns6.shtml), on their Hot Shots II album... a great album, BTW, with a awesome bass section on that piece).
