Well i found a dead pixel on my new axim.. I contacted dell, and they told me they would replace it for me one time. but they told me in spec aloowed past.
So do you think i should send it back, try to get one with 0 dead pixels.
or what.. The guy on the end told me that I could get one with 6 and id be stuck with it
also im unsure how the return works? do they ship me a new axim and then once i recieve it I send my old one back?
any experiance u have here would be good..

Wow! That is incredibly nice of Dell. HPaq wouldn't exchange/repair my iPaq 3955 and it had 2 dead pixels in the center of the screen, after they had me ship it to them without an exchange unit! I was PPCless for 3 days and still didn't get the problem solved! No more HPaq for me!
Dell ships you a replacement unit and you return the old unit in the same box. Dell pays for shipping. Now as far as wheather you should or not depends on how much it bothers you and if you are willing to risk a different unit. Personally I'd take the gamble if it was in the middle but not if it was on the edge. Just my 2 cents!
Cheers!

I don't recall Dell ever limiting the number of times you can exchange your defective unit for a new/refurb unit (unless it's hidden somewhere in the fine print). I would be very disappointed if that was really the policy though since like you said, you could get stuck with a worse unit than you started with and be stuck with it.
I agree that if it isn't in the center of the PPC screen, I probably wouldn't bother.

Yeah I think that guy was feeding you a bunch of baloney, you're not limited in how many times you can return them. You can keep returning them until you get one that works, of course!

well ok then I guess I can give it a go..
Ill call em up again and arrange this exchange.. Worse comes to worse. If they send me one thats even worse, and just allow one exchange .. i can just send it back to em and keep what i got

but what you can't do is get a replacement if you have less than 3 dead pixels in your screen. 3 is the minimal to consider your Axim defective. but wait! lucky for us we have the trusty, mushy, sh*tty d-pad. just tell them that you aren't happy with your d-pad and you want to try a different one and they'll replace the axim, thats what I did after they told me about the 3 pixel thing. just don't say anything about the dead pixel... blame it all on the d-pad! (like everything else in life)

I'm sure not in favor of being beligerant when it comes to asking for better customer service, but I also believe that a bit of friendly assertiveness can usually get you what you want. If I ever find myself talking to a customer service representative who isn't doing enough (in my estimation) to satisfy me, I always ask to speak to his/her supervisor.
More often than not, if I bump things upstairs enough, I get to somebody with enough authority and desire to help me.

I got mine replaced for having a dead pixel. They never said anything about a limit on them. I am on my third Axim too, first one was a bad dpad.

Well, I'm waiting for the arrival of my 5th AXIM replacement... Ive had no luck with these things...
The past TWO units have had dead pixels on arrival. I called tech support and told them the problem and the did not hesitate to replace the unit. They didn't ask how many dead pixels there were nor told me there was a limit to how many times I could replace it. However if this 5th unit is not satisfactory I think I'm going to be asking for a refund this time. Its been a love hate relationship with this thing.
Don't let the tech support people knock you around. They will replace the unit for another new unit. But you may end up in a long line of replacements (I know I'm not the only one whos had this problem (see aximsite.com) If the tech support operator your speaking too giving you double talk just ask for a supervisor. So far my experience with tech support has not been poor, they've always been very quick to replace the unit... just not to quick to make sure the unit works before it goes out the door :(

YEa i guess you would think that they would check b4 sending the replacement out.. Say u had a dead pixel it takes like 2 seconds for them to check b4 they send it that this one does not

I would never accept dead pixels on such a small screen. I asked before I bought my iPAQ 5450 if dead pixels were considdered an defective unit and I got a yes in response, otherwise I would not have ordered.

Just be careful, as dead pixelS might be a defective unit, but a single dead pixel might be within tolerance.
That being said, I've been fortunate that my Axim and my Dell 18" flat panel monitor don't have any dead pixels. My Sony laptop and my husband's Compaq each have one.

1 dead pixel on a laptop (2048*1536) should be considered fine, but 1 dead pixel on a PPC (240*320) .. is outrageous !

By ISO standards, 1 dead sub-pixel or pixel is allowed on a PPC sized screen. OTOH, a 2048x1536 panel can have about 8-10 full dead pixels and still be within tolerance. Some manufactors have really good dead pixel replacements, while others have crappy ones. Dell right now seems to be taking dead pixels on Axims as a serious issue. Also remember that dead pixels can occur over time too. My 17" panel for my desktop has a green subpixel stuck on, but it is in the taskbar so I don't even see it and it does not bug me anymore.
Remember guys, dead pixels are a fact of life with LCD's. Its a huge trade off.

Tom's Hardware Guide (http://www6.tomshardware.com/display/20030319/index.html) has a great article on the replacement policies of different LCD manufacturers....doesn't cover PPCs but I still thought it was interesting :)
If nothing else it made me glad that I have a CRT for my desktop ;)

well I finally put in the call to dell again. THe second I mentioned the nav button not reading right they said yea thats a common problem.. No argueing or anything.. ITs on its way now..
So I guess My screen is getting fixed to.
Weird thing is she said shipping was 24-48 hours.. But when i first ordered it was 2 weeks.. Why cant they ship it just as fast when u first buy it

I guess that when you first order an Axim it's built to order in the Far East, but they have a few units all ready locally as replacement units.
