View Full Version : Using authenticated SMTP with Inbox application?

I'm trying to use authenticated SMTP with the inbox application on my Dell
Axim.

I know that authenticated SMTP is working on my mail server (sendmail)
because I can use it fine with Outlook Express.

However, when I try to use authenticated SMTP with the Inbox application, it does not work.

I have debugged the connection to sendmail and see that it's trying to
authenticate ... but Inbox is sending different authentication responses to
sendmail than OE does.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you marked for "Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication"?

That did the trick for me :-)

See this page (http://www.beauvais1.com/ppc/smtpauth.html) for some info about this. (Though it kinda sounds like you already know how to configure it properly.)

Dave's page at http://www.beauvais1.com/ppc/smtpauth.html has a very clear explanation of setting up smtp auth on pocket PCs. At the bottom of the page he mentions that "The Pocket PC's Inbox app, however, can only use the username and password you've specified for your incoming (POP3 or IMAP4) server. This likely won't be a problem for most people, but it could be an issue for some." If this is an issue for you because you can't use the same auth information as for the incoming server, you might have to instead use the smtp server at http://smtp.com, which does not require smtp authentication, but costs about $4 per month.
