Getting real tired of the default alarms that ship with the PPC. Trying to find some cool sounding ones to replace them with. Anyone care to share theirs? Anything "Macish?"

I have some of the startup sounds from the old Mac's, they're not very long though, the longest one is 2.8 s (from a Power Mac) and the very old Mac startup sounds are less then a second long.

I found some of the coolest sounds just now at a little site called Sound Rangers. (http://www.soundrangers.com) Some very unique sounds. I got a 2 sounds. One called "monster_mad02" and the other called "stinky alert" Very cool work. Only cost a $1.45 a piece and they have a whole host of original and fun work.

I use a file called Startlev.wav that somehow ended up on my Pocket PC. I'm not sure what program installed it, though. It sounds like a loud gong, so I copied it to a file called Gong.wav just so it would be easy to find and I wouldn't lose it if I ever uninstalled whatever installed it.

This question seems to get asked again and again....

I have some Star Trek sounds which are good, both at getting my attention and not annoying others. I also have several of the Win2000 and Office 2000 sounds installed, which are far "softer" and gentler than the default sounds. I strongly recommend finding and previewing those, and they don't cost $1.45. ;)

Finally, I have a few of my vast collection of arcane and diverse "bings, "boops," and "bloops" from other OS', sci-fi movies, et al.

I'm really short on MacOS sounds though ... guinness, could you post a .zip file of yours? The only working one I've got is a pre-Quadra startup "chord."

Funny. I was getting ready to rip out my standard XP/Office sounds with some of the Sound Rangers sounds. They are far better and fresher than the MSFT sounds (In my opinion.).

Heh, I used to have a pretty left leaning professor for one of my poly sci classes in college. I had a .wav file of Cartman from Southpark saying, "It's all a bunch of tree huggin hippie crap!" set as my reminder for that class. Funny thing was, one day I was in his office talking with him about 10 min before class when the alarm sounded. He asked "What was that" and, sort of embarrassed, I told him that was my reminder that it was time for his class.

My criteria for basic event sounds on teh PPC were that the supplied sounds are "tinny," and rather annoying. Tink, tink, clank, clunk. bonk. Stuff like that. The MSFT -2000 sounds are softer, gentler revisions of older, tried-n-true sounds. Notify is a good one. Also ... they're small, don't use up a lot of RAM to install. The Casio also has a pretty loud speaker, so I wanted my system sounds to be quieter.

For a while I had "cool" sounds, but I noticed that long, funny, distinctive sounds were also more attention-getting than I wanted in an office, and public, environment. YMMV, of course. Some people want a really distinctive ring on their phone, my phone is very quiet and generic.
