I've heard it called "psychic surgery". Supposedly, people would pay money to go to "psychic surgeons" in Asia (or somewhere) who would cure all sorts of diseases without real surgery.

The Amazing Randi (http://www.randi.org) demonstrated how that could be faked on an episode of "The Tonight Show" a long time ago. David Blaine just seems to be doing the same thing.
