Pocket PC Italia (http://www.pocketpcitalia.com/cms3/templates/PPC-NEWS.ASP?articleid=306&zoneid=1) has posted some info about an "iPAQ h5550". Here are the specs of the anticipated device:

Microsoft Pocket PC 2003
Intel 400 MHz XScale PXA255
128 MB SDRAM, 48 MB Flash ROM
Biometric fingerprint reader
Integrated wireless - WLAN (802.11b), Bluetooth
SDIO ready

Hopefully it will be manufactured by HTC (in Taiwan). It's so very similar to the iPAQ h5450... shouldn't it be called an iPAQ h5470 instead? :?: I believe that HP may discontinue the iPAQ h5450 Pocket PCs shortly after releasing this new device, since Intel has stopped producing the XScale PXA250.

I can imagine some annoyed users returning their 5450s when they discover some people have the PXA255 processor in their 5450. Giving it a different model number (and the improvement of more RAM) could negate this issue.

Also, if this is true it should mean that the PocketPC 2003 upgrade for the 5450 should follow soon - I'm sure it wouldn't be long before someone copied the 5550 ROM to a 5450.

:? I think I may be getting carried away here... (Note to self - it's only a rumour.)

A couple days ago, HP announced that it would not produce the h5600 series of Pocket PCs.. maybe this is what that was? I can see HP releasing something like this in the near future, doesn't sound unreasonable.

The price shouldn't change for replacing the processor and upgrading the operating system, but it could somewhat increase because of 128 MB RAM...

well a IPAQ 5550 would be possible... the 5400 has been out for almost half a year so a product refresh makes sense.... but if they are releasing this product soon, wouldnt we have heard about it from the FCC already?

I was wondering that. Maybe it doesn't need approval as all the wireless stuff is the same as the 5450. If it is just more RAM and an improved processor as the rumour suggests, this could make sense.
