Horrors! I just had a hard reset occur when I dropped my H5455 on the floor. Has this happened to anyone else? This is not the first time I've ever dropped it, but it's the first time that dropping it caused a hard reset AND it's the first time I've dropped it since installing the ROM update. Hmmm . . . . In any event, I sure am glad that I use the back up utility every morning after I sync up. It would take me all morning to reconstitute the device if I didn't have it backed up on an SD card.

Maybe it's possible the battery was jarred loose? It all depends on how hard you dropped it, I guess.

It has happened to me twice already. One at home, on the carpet, and the second one outside, while getting out of the car. That one hit the road (auch!), but at least it was in a case.

Thank God for Pocket Backup. :D

Mine fell on the cold, hard tile floor in the bathroom--that should teach me not to take my iPAQ EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Oh, so I'm not the only one who thinks the iPAQ loaded with sufficient AvantGo material is a requisite accessory for the 'reading room'. :)

I can't say that I've done that (knock on wood) ... and if I did... my heart would be the one needing a "hard reset"... dropping my multi-hundred dollar toy on the floor would be enough to cause cardiac arrest. 8O

Ordinarily, I'd be game to experiment to see if I could replicate your problem... but I value my heartbeat too much!

Too bad they haven't yet developed an AED (automatic external defibrillator) application for the Pocket PC to shock your heart back into sinus rhythm!

If you think that's bad, you should check this out! This actually happened to me...

I would have been apoplectic if that had happened to me, but it was good to see that PPC Techs could bring it back to life. I will keep them in mind in case something bad happens to my toy. So far, in the brief time (since January) that I've had the 5455, I have zapped it with static electricity from the clothes dryer resulting in a hard reset, dropped it on the floor several times with no bad consequences other than the hard reset of today, dropped it in the dirt while cultivating my vegetable garden, had my cat bite it (I guess I wasn't paying as much attention to her as she would have liked) and had it thrown from the front seat of the car to the floor in the back during a "hard brake." You could say that my little baby "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!"
