ARGH! What is the proper process to restore PPC from backup?

I'm going nuts here. In the last month or so I have had to "reset" my Tosh e740 because the battery ran out, or it froze and would not take a hardreset (so i had to remove/install the battery).

In every case when I go to connect to active sink, it goes through the whole process of wanting to establish a new partnership... If I set the device ID on the PPC to what it was previously I get an error saying this ID is already in used, blah blah.

So bottom line is I end up with several profiles, and then I back up to an old profile, and its just a confusing pain in the ass.

any tips? thanks

also, is there any way to make the back up file save to the CF or SD card? That way you can backup whenever, not just if you are on the active sink PC?

When you put the PDA in the cradle after the reset, select Guest--don't create a new partnership.

Then restore the backup from Activesync.

After the restore, it should recognize your PDA as being from your old partnership and will connect as such.

If you want to backup while not at your PC, you need another app--don't know if the toshiba comes with one or not. If not, I've tried out Pocket Backup and found it to work pretty well. I don't use it though because I'd need to set aside more space then I'd like on a memory card for the backup; so I just back up at home on AS. I have plenty of space on my desktop hard drive for it :)
