View Full Version : Probably not possible but I had to ask

I've tried to find out information on this and though it doesn't seem promising, I have to ask.
Here's the situation:
My company is on a wide area network. A user is synching his PPC to one machine in NY (Primary) and another in Chicago (Secondary). He needs to sync often because his calendar changes every 5 minutes. Problem is he's getting random duplications on his calendar and contacts because he's syncing with two computers So, instead of a laptop, I was wondering if he could sync his PPC through the cradle to the computer in NY. He's got a 1910 so any network connections are out.
So far, it doesn't seem likely but if anyone knows of any alternatives, please let me know.
Thanks...
PS: So far in the past few months, I've gotten 4 people to switch from Palms to a PPC (HP 1910) and the best part, they truly think it's better than what they had!

I'm wondering why you posted this in the Axim forum?
I'm also not exactly sure what you're asking--are you asking if he can somehow remotely sync to a computer in a different city? I could be way off, but I'm thinking that if he has a way of remotely connecting to that desktop(via Win XP or NT) then maybe he can sync while remotely connected? Anyone familiar with remote connections want to confirm or deny?

I think your best bet is to fix 2-machine ActiveSync'ing. It should generally work, unless you're trying to sync to the same Exchange mailbox from two different places. If so, the correct long-term solution is to deploy Mobile Information Server (or Exchange 2003) -- that will support proper server-side syncing from wherever you are. As a possible alternative, something like IntelliSync might handle multiple syncs to the same mailbox more efficiently.
As for passthrough sync, I don't think that'll work, for a simple reason -- you've already used up the ActiveSync session for the passthru, so you can't start another instance of ActiveSync for the network connection. There is one esoteric possibility -- PPP over IR, but that's a pretty rare setup, and I haven't tested it.

Yeah, I don't know why I posted here but I subconsciously posted here because I was using a Axim to do some testing. I figured that the MS Information Server would be the best thing to do but I know we won't be doing that anytime soon.
I should get this moved to the general chat shouldn't I...
Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Here's my synopsis of what I understand. Tell me if I've summarized it correctly.
User is syncing in an unspecified manner with computer A in New York and computer B in Chicago. This causes duplicates. You want to somehow sync using a cradle with computer A in New York, hoping that will fix the problem.
First, why would syncing using the cradle with computer A fix duplicates if syncing via whatever method the user is using now doesn't? Second, will you still need to sync with computer B in Chicago? Finally, where does the laptop enter into this?
