Jason, Will this device make it to the US?

too bad there's no software for it since its windowsce :(

also, they need an SD slot and GPRS capabilities -- then i would take a second look.

the keyboard/cover is nice.

I thought it was running the new CE.NET not old CE so newer apps will run on it, right?

Here's a link to a Samsung Hong Kong web page in English about the Nexio.

The page includes photographs, a link to a Nexio sales brochure (in PDF format) and a link to the user guide:

Anyone else notice the Industry Canada approval markings on the back?

Is it somekind of tolling issue or why is it that most of the coolest Japanese / Asian devices never leave the continent?

Can it be a conscious decision that they settle for smaller markets instead of supplying the devices to world markets which are huge and where these kind of superior devices would do quite nicely?

Could someone enlight me here?

That Samsung device appears to be the one used in CNET Radio Direct interview at http://www.cnet.com/video/synd/mail_redir2.html?vid_win=http://zdnet.com.com/1601-2-996424.html . I had a hard time watching the interview because I kept looking at the device. Very nice.

Looks like a real killer machine. Finally a PDA with screen resolution suited for Web browsing! Now what we need are the PPC apps rebuilt for WinCE .NET ...

Anyone going to Hong Kong anytime soon?

That is really sweet. Too bad they wont ship overseas. Wonder what they mean by "Security Issues" being the reason. Oh well, another sharp looking device I'll never have.

Killer device, I didnt know Ziogolf2 was available for CE.net
Dont a lot of PPC programs work on CE.net devices with XScale´s as well?

Dont a lot of PPC programs work on CE.net devices with XScale´s as well?

programs that use pocketpc specific calls (e.g. shell), most probably will not.

i think ppc programs that use just windows ce 3.0 system calls SHOULD work fine. though i would think many of them would not be formatted properly given the different size screen.

my question is whether if one purchased it in HK...
- one could get a version with english support
- would work with activesync
- what dev tools would be available.

I wish the HP iPAQ developers would consider such a screen. Imagine a 800x600 screen like this coupled to the full keyboard of the iPAQ H series. I will not shell out serious cash for the H series if it continues the 320x240 screen: why have full speed input to a document if you can't see the full document without horizontal scrolling or squinting?

The next version of CE.net is supposedly going to have very high PPC compatibility - one can assume this is what's being used in PocketPC 2003.

The question is ...

is anyone really going to buy this at the current price tag of close to a 1000 USD?

Might as well get me a laptop.

Why is it all the stuff I have been waiting on never makes it, or makes it late.

I waited months on the Genio e550g just to have bad miserable support.

Now that a device in the form factor I have been looking for comes to market, its not coming to the US! Argh!

BTW how much is 7180HK?

Hyperluminal

$7180= US920.55 or CA$1334.43

I was kind of considering emailing Dynamism.com to ask them how much it would cost to import one of these (they can import almost anything from Asia), but this, plus the cost of importing it would be way too much...

I got to play with one for a little while at Comdex last year. It's as incredible as it looks. The screen is gorgeous. The optional keyboard doubles as a flip-cover. Samsung had the units on the counter, in the cradles, with keyboards attached. I did not get to hold one in my hands to try and use it like a PDA, which is where my only concern lies. Though very thin, it is much bigger than a PDA, and is landscape oriented. I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to use as a handheld. The extra size might also make it a little awkward to carry. If I could get my hands on one, though, I'd probably buy it, just so I could show it off.

:shocked!: :jawdrop: :rock on dude!:
I've had my eye on this one. I guess if we have a good month, I'll have to ask Dynamism to send one my way.

DANG a device like this would be COOL!

It's too big for a 'Pocket PDA'. You can't fit something like that in your coat pocket.

I for one would be eager to see some sort of mutations between PocketPC and a TabletPC. PocketPC (atleast with 3,5" screen) is many times too small for my purposes and TabletPC is much too big to be carried around everywhere.

That's why I've still chosen PPC over laptops etc .. But bigger screen I wouldn't mind.

Could the screen orientation not be rotated like some other H/PCs?

I just looked at that flash presentation. It mentions a Java Virtual Machine. Would that be the ancient JVM for CE 2.11, or a new, Java 2 compatible one?

I got to play around with this one at the German Cebit in March, and it was just so magnificent. The OS was in English and the WiFi-connection worked like a breeze. Screen update was almost as good as it gets with smooth scrolling. This device is great for surfing the web.
The size is perfect for good sized jacked pocket, but not your shirt, and it is very light.
The screen is to die for, but needs an antireflective cover.
The rep. said that is was being sold in asia and they took it to Cebit to see if there was an interest in Europe, but there were no current plans for a launch here.

Check my pictures here: http://www.pdamed.dk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2499

Here you can see how much more screen realestate there is, as I've crammed 2 PocketPC-screenshots into the picture:

PC Pro Magazine here in the UK are carrying a news item (in their latest edition) that it's due to be launched in the UK in Q4 this year.

No idea how that squares with the news from dbrahms that it's been discontinued. :?
