This question is a pretty newbie question in its simplest form.

I remember reading many users' complaints regarding Activesync... Is there an alternative to the activesync software itself? or is there at least one in the works that anyone might know of?

There is MightySync and Intellisync.

They may require ActiveSync in order to work - I'm pretty sure MightySync does.

Anyway, I have never had any real problem with Activesync.

You probably haven't been using it much then.

That's not entirely the case... I have had very few problems with ActiveSync on a daily basis. I've bumped up against its limitations many times, and there are quite a few of them, but for the most part, I just connect my PPC and it syncs with minimal hassle.

I know that it's possible to do it, hence the  icon.

I have regular, but minor, problems, especially with AvantGo ("Device components missing or out of date").

I've been using AS since the very beginning and when I left my J548 behind, just had some trouble to connect the J568 (which I still use as my main PDA, having a brand new 1910 8) as my 'lite' one), and never, never have had a problem again, maybe I'm lucky, but everything works as it should with AS.

Regards.

I had problems with syncing, so I just disabled syncing on almost all of the options. Right now I just sync Pocket Quicken and Files(for ListPro). Gave up syncing contacts(messed up my desktop address book too much), email(have a POP3 service set up to check email while away instead), calender(didn't want reminders coming up on my desktop, only my handheld), and I still haven't reinstalled Avant Go after the ROM update I did....so now I have pretty much no problems! I plug it in, it syncs, it backs up, and it's done. The way to make it work is to use it as little as possible :)

I have regular, but minor, problems, especially with AvantGo ("Device components missing or out of date").

That one just puts my shorts in a knot, and it happens way to often. To add insult to injury, when that happens, go to the connections screen on the PPC, click Avantgo and hit Sync All. Betcha a dollor it'll work just fine. So there is nothing wrong with the setup on the device and nothing is out of date, dang it.

Typically resetting the PPC fixes the problem. And I am supposed to believe that process restored the missing items or updated the out of date ones? Yea, right.

Also when that happens on one PPC, typically I can set my other two on the cradle and they work fine, so we can't blame it on the desktop stuff being 'missing or out of date', either. ARGGGHHH :| pet peeve stired up.

I sync my Axim on my work desktop and at home. When I sync the work desktop with Avantgo the connection to my Axim quits/disconnects (the little circle turns gray instead of green). If I unplug the Axim from the sync cable and reconnect, it goes through synchronzation until it gets to Avantgo, syncs about half way through and disconnects. This does not happen on my home desktop. Has anyone experienced anything comparable? :(

No bet -- using the AvantGo settings applet to synchronize works fine. Since that works fine, I wouldn't be so upset, except that the error seems to prevent other things from synchronizing. It also prevents you from using a lot of the ActiveSync interface, like Backup/Restore... and Options....

On another issue, why does Money seem to try to synchronize every minute or so? Is the ActiveSync component polling for updates? That would be really stupid....

I've suggested on several sites the creation of a dedicated ActiveSync forum topic, because questions about this POS error-prone, data-losing, scum-stub application seem to appear across various areas of each forum which I frequent (the biggies, btw: ppcpassion, brighthand, here).

Let's see who's first to start putting all ASS (ActiveSync Sickness Syndrome) topics under one topic area. I really wish that MS people would see the volume of problems and realize they've got a bug-fixing issue to address.
