Where is this file? The link is dead...

What's the best way to restore all the programs and things after running the ROM update? Would using iPaq backup work, or would it try to replace the files that the ROM update changes?

Definitely, a reinstall is better than a restore, which might put some old configurations back.

It'll take longer but is usually worth it.

Which of the other service packs will we have to restore once the ROM is updated? I didn't see any mention of whether or not this ROM update replaced the patches in the software section...

Ok, I see on the HP Biz forums, that the WLAN update will need to be reapplied....

After the ROM 1.10.00 update + WLAN SP23372 I have:
Hardware Rev. 6.3
Firmware Ver. 0.90.5.149
Driver Ver. 2.2.2.50
Software Ver. 4.0.1.22
Module Rel. 02.09.05

Also, the ROM versions are:
vnetmini.dll 14848b 17/03/03 14:37
vnetusba.dll 51712b same date

After SP23372 I have:
vnetmini.dll 28672b 12/02/03 21:55
vnetusba.dll 56832b same date

I think this proves fairly conclusively that the WLAN update was NOT included in the ROM 1.10. Also, it is working now.

Check the dates for the SP2 upgrade.. Day/month/Year..

You shouldn't need to re-apply the WLAN update...

OK...

Now when I remove my 5455 from the cradle, the unit shuts off. It registers NO battery power. Is this an issue with this ROM update? I am considering going back to the 1.00.45 ROM if this is a ROM issue.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

This was where I got my info for my post, and it say's in here that the WLAN update was NOT included in the ROM update, or am I reading this wrong?

The WLAN update is NOT included in the ROM update. You still need to install it (if you want). :)

OK, so based on the thread the CORRECT way to do this particular ROM update is:

1. Sync to backup PIM data
2. Apply ROM Update (data wiped out)
3. Apply WLAN Update
4. Sync
5. Re-install 3rd party application.

Correct?

BTW, anybody still have the link to the WLAN Update?

Close. You forgot one step.

1. Sync to backup PIM data
2. Backup ROM using the update utility
3. Apply ROM Update (data wiped out)
4. Apply WLAN Update
5. Sync
6. Re-install 3rd party application

The WLAN update can be found here:

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but it seems very little is included in this update....especially considering the amount of work to prep ahead of time, install the update, and then re-install all the various apps (and re-configure preferences for each).

Unless I am missing something ('twould not be the first time), I think I'll practice the 'If it ain't broke.......' theorem this time around.

Am I daft?

I have just double check the ROM update, it does include the latest WLAN Driver- even after I have installed the patch (RAM version) the version number didnt change after I have did a soft reset (making sure things are loaded)

Try removing the battery, then doing a soft reset. My driver version changed from 2.2.2.36 to 2.2.2.50. Although the driver dll dates are older, it seems the driver versions are newer.

I'm now seeing lots of other quirky things on my H5450 post ROM update. Often when I place the unit in its cradle (a 3950 cradle, I should add) it won't activesync...out-in, out-in, out-in...nothing until I soft reset. Also I've seen a network communications error many times (Error 666). Sometimes the iPAQ just freezes up too. I'll click on the start button and then settings or programs...hung. Unfortunately none of this is consistently repeatable.

1.10.0 ROM update, SP23372 (WiFi Update), Battery Pack, Journal Bar, ICBar, Dashboard (not active) and a variety of misc software packages are what I have installed. I've had to hard reset three or four times since installing the ROM update...but some of that was due to testing the WiFi update and getting the versioning correct. Still...I'm convinced all is not well even now.

Everyone may be aware of this, or I might have done something wrong, but when I did the full system backup (via ActiveSync) of my 5455, it did not apparently back up the iPAQ File Store.

Beyond that, the patch went in without a hitch. It took several hours. Backup->Apply Patch->Restore

Guys,
haha... its is tricky, but I finally checked carefully with the WiFi version, and what I would tell you is: install WiFi patch still.

ROM Version (no patch installed)
6.3
0.90.2.149
2.2.2.36
4.0.1.15
02.09.05

Patch:
6.3
0.90.5.149
2.2.2.50
4.0.1.15
02.09.05

(The Wireless LAN Section in Asset Viewer)

Therefore, the version number in patch is higher, and something more important: I have confirmed that my WiFi is not scanning, not even active at all with the ROM, instead after I have repatched the RAM patch, it now scans and tell me status in constant. I dont have WiFi at home, but from behaviour I bet something is absolutely wrong with the 1.10 ROM WiFi.

However, as most ppl experienced... this ROM give you very reasonable improvement in terms of speed, so I still think we got to apply that.

I have installed the ROM 1.10. I have no hacks to WIFI or the RAM patch. MY WIFI worked great before the ROM and still works great after the ROM.

From the Asset Viewer:

Wireless LAN
Hardware Revision: 6.3
Firmware Revision: 0.90.5.149
Driver Version: 2.2.2.36
Software Version: 4.0.1.15
Module Release Date: 02.09.05
