View Full Version : How hard is it to make a PDA that has all the good stuff?

It amazes me that no one has released a PDA with bluetooth, phone capability, 802.11b, 128megs ram or more, compact flash, sdio, transreflective screen, built in keyboard, industrial IR, ......lets see, what did I forget?

What else did you forget? Let's see....

Firewire
USB 2.0
Hard disk
Biometrics (fingerprint scanner)
TV and radio tuners
VGA out
Stun gun prongs :devilboy:

Is that enough? :-D

I think that these things would make the PDA very very large, and people complained enough about the Axim.

Yeah... and while were at it, why limit us to such a small form factor... why not allow the PDA to have a large fold out screen and fold out keyboard, so that it can expand into something more the size of my notebook... DOH.... :bangin:

It also shouldn't be too hard to make a "Swiss Army PDA" .. fold out knives, saws, toothpicks, etc..

But then you wouldn't be able to take it on a plane...

Seems too obvious to post, but don't forget there is a business piece to all this. If they could be made (which I'm sure they could), how much will they cost to make? (development and per unit) How much will people pay for them? And how many will they sell?

I agree. I think it's possible to create such a device - but right now it would probably be > $800 considering the iPAQ H5455 has both BlueTooth and Wifi, and only a SD slot - no phone, no built in keyboard, etc.. and it's $700.

I don't think I'd pay that much for any PDA unless it did my laundry and cleaned my kitchen.

I just saw another article about the handheld computers being built for UPS. The handhelds will have GPRS or CDMA (depending on geographical area), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, and GPS.

I'd love a PPC with all that.

(best Field of Dreams voice) If they build it, we will come... :)
