<a href="http://www.pocketpcmag.com/jul03/default.asp">http://www.pocketpcmag.com/jul03/default.asp</a><br /><br />Yours truly has a nice little 5 page article in there. Some of you may recall the "Which PDA Is Simple Again?" article I wrote late last year. It now occupies pages 32-36 in the July 2003 issue of Pocket PC Magazine. :D I predict this will be the largest best selling Pocket PC Magazine issue ever! <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030411-pocketpcmag.gif" /><br /><br />Also check out the <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/ppcmagad.jpg">ad that Jason ran with your quotes</a> - it is on page 68.

Cool! I've been in a quandry since getting the mail today. Of course I read my article first, but before flipping through the rest of the magazine, I had to pick up the newly arrived Car And Driver to read the two comparos where the Audi RS6 stomps all over the other midsized Euromobiles and then 5 pages later the Audi S4 stomps all over the the entry level luxo euromobiles. Die BMW M5/M3, die die die! Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Next i'll read your review David. :way to go:

Don't be talking bad about the M5! Have you ever driven one on the German Autobahn?

On the other hand, I look forward to getting this month's PPC Mag.

I have a new A4 Avant (1.8T Quattro) but I'd swap it for an M5 in a heartbeat.
An RS6 would be nice in the winter though
I'm debating whether to blow the warranty and get the 1.8T chipped.
Seriously Ed, some of the things you have written were very much behind my decision to leave POS and go for PPC. Heck, I even have PocketBible and the NIV and I would claim to be agnostic. You have a lot to answer for!

I seriously considered chipping my A4 but it is the V6 and chipping naturally aspirated engines doesn't to a whole lot.

Very cool. Try one of the daily reader books from http://www.laridian.com/ce/catdailyreader.asp - I highly recommend Experiencing God's Word and One Year with Jesus. :way to go: Makes it easier than just sitting down to read sometimes.

My last car was the 24v VR6 Jetta. Same thing, chipping doesn't do a lot. It's only with the turbo that you can gain a lot. 170 to 230hp sounds good to me!

I'll check out the daily readers

When you do get a copy, you should find a few of those annoying postcards that fall out of all magazines. Why not fill one of them out and throw it in a mailbox instead of in the trash?

Is there a reason the picture is called "booyah"? I just thought it was kind of funny. This is great: this site is ready for subscription services now. Heck, you could make a Pocket PC Thoughts magazine. Or fuse with Pocket PC Magazine. Or both. Or you could just take over the world. After that, you guys could use Zires as torture devices.

Ed, that article that you wrote is my bible for the simple argument that Palms are not simpler. I carry it with me as an ebook everywhere. Its great to see that its finally on print. Good job!!! :D

Edit #1: For some reason, I didn't write the sentence correctly. I guess I was busy listening to some new music I got.

Many of my images have an alternate tag that isn't always related or, as in this case, an expression of how I felt when I saw the magazine. :)

Ohhh how I'd so love to argue with that article. But I'll just stay under the bridge until the right time arises, like it did in that NZ thread.

Maybe I'll pick up a copy, flip to page 32, tack it to the wall, and write WRONG all over it. Just remember that I will return one day, and with a vengence so bad you'll want to pound your PPC into IBM self-healing server pixie dust.

But in the mean-time, congrats on the fame.

Yes it's the LOOX, and yes it's been available in Europe for quite a while, but since it wasn't available in the USA, I guess they considered it news.

Thanks, but I was really just teasing Ed and Jason. I'm the Wireless Technology Editor for Pocket PC Magazine so I have an article in almost every issue. I only pointed out this one because of Jason's association with Spb Software House (the company that makes the program I reviewed in this issue.)

WRX Wagon.

The only sedan that has tempted me from wagon practicality is the RX-8. The world's first and only 4-door sports car (thanks to the benefits of rotary goodness).

Currently have Skoda Felicia 1.6 estate (combi?) - I have never measured my self-esteem with a car ( as (a) I came to driving late and find it a chore, not a pleasure, (b) I prefer gadgets). This fits with my current PPC being a Jornada 568 - nothing flashy, does the job and will be not be replaced until it falls apart.

That said, when the Skoda does get too old (7-8 years total?) I'll get whatever Subaru has as it's Turbo Forester model. My housemate had the Impreza turbo and it was very fast, very quick and had very good road holding  . That'll do for me, as Colin McRae would say.

So far it looks as though VW Group has the market for PPC users.
I know there are a few GTI and Jetta drivers here too.

WRX is a nice car too. The new STI version will be the bollocks.

This is my first ever mobile post, using my Axim and 802.11b card.

Our newsstand distribution continues to rise. We just sent 132,000 copies to newsstands around the world (mostly U.S.). About 40-45% will sell. (Maybe with Ed's article, more :). In addition there are 25K-30K subscribers.

By the way someone asked about why the Loox. The answer as someone surmised, it is somewhat available in U.S. Also, we hadn't written about it, and to be frank, it just so happened there were no other new units to review. We always like to feature a Pocket PC on the cover.

Hey Steve,
Ed mentioned cars first and got me going (sorry)
And I did include the bit about being a mobile post at the end so there was some PPC content. Actually I hope the forums do get to be better for the PPC screen before long.
A car thread might be fun, I'll start one soon!

That's excellent to hear, Hal. I'm going on 4 years of reading the magazine (even back when it was Handheld PC Magazine). It's a fantasitc magazine and the new "How To" section (along with these forums) give me great ideas. Thanks again! :D

Yes. But I have no idea where. Unfortunately, they are about 5 middlemen between myself and the European newsstand. I'll see if I can find out for Denmark. (I know Boarders in the UK has them -- do you have a boarders).

Anyone who is interested in the magazine can subscribe at www.PocketPCmag.com.

If you want a sample issue, we have an unpublicized link, http://www.pocketpcmag.com/freeiss.asp, where you can sign up. We will bill you for your subscription, but you can write cancel on invoice (or ignore them), if you really decide you don't want to decide. We will send the sample overseas.

I've noticed the mags everywhere lately. I walked into 3 different book stores and they were right next to Maximum PC and PCgamer (speaking of which, in case anyone is interested, MaximumPC's latest issue is running an article about best PPC games)

I do it daily and would never do it with a BMW (sorry, even if I live in Munich but as Audi is also a Bavarian company now - it should be okay) I prefer my more sportive A4 (http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=90)... 8)

Ditto. Mine is a 98 A4 Quattro, 5sp, with the sport package. The only thing I really wish I could change about it would be to put an audio in jack in the radio so I could connect my iPAQ directly to the stereo to listen to Audible. right now I do it with a cheesy cassette adapter. Listenting to audible is just another one of those things that is drop-dead easy on the Pocket PC - once you get the thing "activated."

It's unfortunate that you (or they) didn't seem to edit the article to take into account the errors that others pointed out in that original thread. That's the advantage of a community-based site, and yet they seem to have ignored the responses to the original article as it appeared here. Note that I'm talking strictly about actual errors here (such as moving from field to field).

THose are corrected in the thread. Press time needs a lead time - this was done back in Jan I think.

Also, on the tab with a keyboard. It is so backwards on a Palm as to be as confusing as not having the capability. I asked 4 people how to tab - 2 of which were long time Palm users and one still is a current Palm user. The others had new Clie NR/NV series and they couldn't find any info on tabs in the manuals that came with it.

Small issue, and corrected in the thread, both referenced here and in the print version.

The article was simply to dispell the myth that Palm was easier. I did what I set out to accomplish when it comes to the basic PIMness of each device. It wasn't meant to be a feature by feature blow by blow here-is-how-you-do-everything-on-each-platform tome. Dispell the myth. Facutally, no less than 95% of the article is dead on. In fact, except for the tab issue, I don't recall any other errors being pointed out. Differences of opinion, yes. Errors? No.

Can you even copy and paste on a Palm?
Sure. Not easily sometimes between forms. Even on the PPC this is a pain unless you have a third party task switcher installed that will take you back to the form vs the apps UI.

Don't recall if CTRL/V/X/C worked on the Palm though with a keyboard. Anyone?

It's the same brainwashing/marketing-gimmick Apple has been using for years. Palm/Apple try to fill the "user-friendly" void, and it's a complete fallacy.

Ed wrote a very even handed article and I am glad to see PocketPC Mag printed it.

I have worked for a company that sells PalmOS units, but you know what? I own a PPC. I spent years on a Mac, but you know what? I own a PC. Why? Because I am some sort of masochist? No, I just realize that when I truly want to do more, it is neither on a Mac or a Palm device.

Nice job Ed.
