e-Media releases Harmony, an extranet product to allow secure online document sharing and mobile office capabilities.
DUNEDIN, NZ – April 9 2003 – e-Media Ltd. Today announced the launch of its Harmony document sharing and collaboration product. Harmony allows documents to be securely stored and shared over the internet. A Harmony extranet site can be accessed from any web browser or from Pocket PC devices equipped with Wireless network access.
“One of our key design goals with Harmony was to afford companies sharing confidential documentation over the internet the same sort of security that they demand for say e-commerce.” said Chris Auld, Chief Architect at e-Media. “Harmony allows staff, clients and business partners to log in and retrieve important documents over a secure internet channel.”
Email is an inherently insecure medium. When sending attachments via email there is the potential for sensitive information to be relayed by dozens of servers around the world en route to the recipient. Harmony uses industry standard web based encryption to overcome these problems.
Harmony is available either as on service provider hosted basis with all data stored at one of e-Media’s secure data centers, or, as a ‘shrink wrapped’ application which organizations can host from with their own network.
A special version of Harmony is available that is optimized for use on Pocket PC devices over Wide Area Network connections. “We are completely network agnostic” noted Mr. Auld. “Harmony is designed to work with the new wireless Pocket PC devices available on of the IP based wide area networks and to be future proofed as new technologies come along.”
Harmony offers a complete extranet feature set including event calendars, threaded discussions and news announcement facilities. Virtually all of the aspects of Harmony can have a rich group based permission model applied them to allow and restrict access based on the login of the user.
“Ultimately Harmony is about making information more mobile by securely leveraging the near ubiquitous nature of the internet. Mobile information means that clients and staff are able to make informed decisions faster and ultimately this speed and flexibility is good for a company’s bottom line” finished Mr. Auld.
