$30 is enough to go "hog wild" where you live, Ed? You need to come to New York. That might be just barely enough to get you and your spouse dinner - without drinks or tips. ;)
In any case, this happens every so often on Amazon when they shift prices. Has anyone ever gotten money from Amazon for one of these "negative" deals?

I'd be interested to know if Amazon ultimately honors it. It's not clear how much they're losing, btw, because all of these need a 1-year wireless contract.

I just got my $250 rebate check from amazon for a t68i I bought around christmas. I had to shell out $275 for the phone, but I am still super happy. $25 for a t68i? Great deal. Get paid $30? You can't beat that.

Ummm...Janak where are you hanging out? I'd say $30 is a start for one person and one really upset companion. :D

Yeah, I know I'm pushing it -- don't ask my credit card. ;)
Having said that, not every part of Manhattan is as expensive as midtown or downtown (the latter put things in perspective for me a few years ago -- we would consider a $15 pickup lunch to be cheap, and a sitdown lunch for that price a bargain).

True. I have my favorite cheap haunts.
On the topic, I have to ask the most annoying of all the questions regarding phones, but...are these locked to T-Mobile? I guess it doesn't matter too much because TM is very good at unlocking by request. I'd like to get my fiance on a T68i, but she travels to Canada on a regular basis and roaming charges bite!

Ok, like I have always said and thought...
You could not PAY ME enough to take that phone.... and $30 is surely NOT enough :)
Thanks

Wow! I'll be very sad the day this line is terminated. I love the T68i.

Well you are lucky enough to live in NYC ( used to live in Rockland County, about 20 miles north .....dang I miss the good food :( )
So you are in one of the largest markets. So your coverage is excellent.
I have heard the t68i is good in VERY LARGE cities, but here in Utah, even the big cities. That phone cannot hold a signal worth it's life.
That is why I am saying that.
Now my Nokia 3650.....NICE!! :)
Thanks

Sounds like you may have had one of the early firmwares. I've spent a long time in the southwest, including Salt Lake & Park City and I had a great signal...In fact, NYC is pretty much hell on cell service. I get better service, relatively speaking when I leave the city than when I am in the heart of it.

Well then how about I give you my address and you just ship me a nice WHOLE PIE of REAL PIZZA and I will give you my Fedex shipper number and we will call it even :)
You may be right about the firmware. I was not into firmware upgrade, software for phones, etc. back then.
These days are different.
I feel like when I first discovered PocketPC over Palm.... my wife hates it...but oh well.... :)
Thanks

I got the same deal from Amazon before Christmas except I paid $250, got a $250 rebate from Amazon and a $50 from T-Mobile (required a $40 plan or higher). And I bought two of them, for my wife and myself. Within the last two weeks, I have gotten all four checks. So I ended up with 2 T68i phones with a year's service agreement and $100. Not bad. :D

The only thing preventing me from getting this sweet phone is what seems to be a miniscule amount of data offered with the plan. Seems like 20MB will evaporate in a week (maybe days). Am I wrong?

Depends on what you do. T-Mobile gives you a compression proxy that works decently. If you're online all the time, then yes, it's not enough. If you're online 3-4 times a week for 20-30 minutes each, doing light surfing and a bit of email reading, then you'll probably be OK. I've never hit 5MB, let alone 10MB - I do about 5-15 minutes, 5 days a week.

Yep, that sounds right. Unless of course you're like me and occasionally connect your mobile to your laptop to dowlnoad from Kazaa resulting >40 to 50 MB / Month 8O 8O Thankfully thats not so much of a problem with Sprints's unlimited data  :devilboy: .

Perhaps a stupid question.
So with bluetooth on your pocketpc, you can wirelessly browse the web?
How is the T moble service in San diego? Sounds almost too good to be true.

With Bluetooth on your Pocket PC and cell phone, you can connect them without a physical wire. You then use your cell phone as a dial-up solution to get Internet access on your Pocket PC.
I don't know how T-Mo service is in SD, though.

ive been connecting my laptop and pocket pc to my t68i via infrared. dont have a BT for my pocket pc yet.
If you dont use a wml proxy server, you will blow through the 10-20 megs you purchase monthly in no time. when useing the phones built in browser, it allways going through its own wml proxy. on pocket pc and laptop though, I use Googles wml proxy. With the laptop I need to use opera because IE dosnt support WML, but pocket IE supports wml directly.
googles proxy is www.google.com/wml

I don't use it alot, but I only eat up minutes on my t-mo account. I have a nationwide plan (free long distance) and use www.freedialup.org for an ISP. The connection is slow (limited to 14.4 or something) but doesn't really seem that much slower than any other browsing I do on the ppc.
The ISP is totally free, but only has access numbers in new england. I use a normal dial up connection, and the t68 as a BT modem. I am not using gprs.
This type of connection is officially not allowed by t-mobile, they require a data plan for any web browsing by a device other than a phone, but I only use it once in a while, and not for any great length, and so far I have only used service minutes doing this.

T-Mobile told me that most of their phones aren't locked, but if they are, they will unlock them after a couple of months of service.
