This is one of those "just curious" kinds of questions. What news channels do you have on AvantGo (or Mazingo, or whatever)? And which is your favorite one? I have:

Christian Science Monitor
CNET News.com
CNN
Guardian Unlimited
Le Monde Interactif - actualites
My startribune.com - Minneapolis/St. Paul
New York Times
New York Times - International
Salon
The Daily Motiv8r
The Onion
Twin Cities Movie Listings
USATODAY.COM
washingtonpost.com

Of all of these, I'd say I read USA Today the most. It seems to have a good balance between lengthy, in-depth stories and breadth of coverage. After that, my most frequent reads are Salon and The Onion.

Avantgo:

Encarta Language Learning - French to Go
Joke a Day (Mature)
Liv4now.com
The Wall Street Journal
The Funniest
USAToday.com

and for Mazingo:

compu2go.com
Maxim Online
MSNBC Mobile
New York Post
PDAschedule (keep up on all the sports scores and standings)
Pocket PC Thoughts
The Onion
UK Guardian

I'd say I probably read the Guardian most of all. But, then again, that's just what on there now. I change around about once a month.

The thing I appreciate about off-line reading is being able to find the news that macthes my interests & values. I find it particularly valuable for general news/current affairs as these days all the mainstream delivers up is propaganda

I am new to the Pocket PC. I have Journal Bar loaded and Avantgo. The scroll on the Journal bar has weather and a number of Internet channels. Does the Journal Bar and it's channels conflict with the channels of Avantgo? :) Sometimes my Axim freezes when using Avantgo. Has anyone else experienced that problem? 8O

Man, there are some SERIOUS offline readers here! All I've got is:

Finextra
MBusiness Daily
Our Daily Bread
Pocket PC Thoughts
The Feature
The Funniest

What I find even more amusing is the fact that it was not that long ago that synching Pocket PC Thoughts once or twice a day was sufficient to make sure I had the most up-to-date postings. Now, you've almost got to synch the channel during every connection because of how often Jason keeps the site updated.

AvantGo just made my ActiveSync experience longer and more frustrating. Switched over to HandStory and do not regret it. I can update any wireless whenever I need to.

I finally updated my AvantGo channels, based in part on the many ideas in this thread.

Two things:

1) I added a BBC custom channel using this link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/text_only.stm). Has anyone else found the BBC to be a huge bandwidth hog? I have it on all-text, no graphics allowed, and at a max size of 525k and I still can't read all the articles. Any suggestions?

2) A neat trick to add more channels to your 2MB account: in the "My Account" tab, click on "Manage my Subscriptions." This will show you the maximum size for each channel as well as how many K were actually used on your last sync. You can edit each channel and reduce the maximum size accordingly -- even for non-custom channels. I found that many of my channels had the maximum size set way too high.

This allows you to add more channels to your subscription without having to upgrade to 8MB! Woo!

To avoid the Avantgo 2MB restriction I've switched to iSilo some months ago. Not only that, I found that with iSilo I have an even bigger choice of channels available.

The best source I've found is at http://www.turcic.com/palm.shtml (don't let the "palm" freak you out - the list available there is for the desktop contuit iSiloX) and the forum at http://www.turcic.com/forums. Very friendly people and a great resource for us.

Actually, you can create multiple subscriptions to Avantgo, and in Pocket IE select which "server account" to use. I haven't tried this with two distinct accounts, and distinct channels between the two, but found for a few months that between my work and home pcs, I had two copies of the same account info on my PDA, and each PC was downloading content for both ... double-syncing. So no WONDER it took so long to sync up...!

I've tried that channel adjustment, but ... I thought that AvantGo still limited free accounts based on the proposed size, not what you've configured. Also ... funny, my limit is 2 MB, but how come my near-full subscription only takes up < 1 MB on my PDA? Interesting math in use. >:|

I've tried and discarded many, like PowerQuotes, word of the Day, CNN, USA Today, MSNBC, ... some of those news sites just have too little content.

I also sync up BCC, Fox News, The Onion, Box Office Magazine, and Computer User with Mobipocket news. Much easier to read.

Takes a long time to synch, but I'm never out of reading material!

I read these the most:
The Onion
USA Today
PPCT :)
CNN
Detroit Free Press
and Gizmodo

I've set up most of my channels to optimize the size, and synch only as needed... so at any time, my synch times are staggered, rather than staggering
