View Full Version : Happy April Fool's, Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed our attempt at spicing up the site a little bit this morning. We tried not to go overboard, and fortunately, we know when to stop. All news from now on will be "real", for those of you who have trouble differentiating. :D

What's truly scary is that we have gotten at least 50 emails and news submissions claiming the site was hacked due to Jason's fine artwork at the top of the screen (if you missed it, this is what it looked like). What, you guys don't think Palms Rulez?

In any case, let's end it with a poll. Which one did you like the most?

I think you guys would have suckered more people in if there weren't 10 fake articles in a row...

You should add one more option:
"I hate april fools and feel like poking you with a sharp stick :D"
Seriously though, you guys went a little overboard with all this sillyness. I"m going to grab a tea and an aspirin now. :twak:

True, but the goal wasn't to be totally evil, just a bit humorous. It was also very ad-hoc and last-minute, so we couldn't structure it as well as we would have liked.
bjornkeizers, everyone has different thresholds for this kind of stuff. Slashdot runs theirs all day and mixes it in with regular announcements.

I thought the 10G microdrive had the best shot at actually being realizable.
The eV Tools .NET just opened wounds for many I'm sure. So possible, so unlikely :(

What a way to force me to register in the forums!
I've been visiting this site almost everyday for like a year now but I never tried to register.
I'm one of those who emailed about the palm rulez thing. It was like my radar just opened so wide when I read that. For a minute there I even thought twice about this being a pocket pc site, despite my daily visits.
I was really caught off guard. How would I have thought about April Fools day when it's 2:39AM, April second from where I am!
Anyway, thanks for giving me good reasons for keeping you in my favorites list. :)

My vote is for the SeV. That's becuase I actually got that one as a press release this morning. When I read the subect line in my :spam: filtering program, I have to admit that I was suckered at first. 8O
Then I saw the photos (you didn't include the one of Rebecca :shocked!: ) plus the text and I realized I'd been had.
Reading tech. news sites is a complete waste of time on April Fools day!

I think 10 articles in such little time is overboard. You should have streched it out, because at 10:50 in the morning, I've missed the entire thing! I realize this site is international, but still its a little early. I thought the .NET looked the most realistic, but palmrulz was funny after I saw it.

We spread them over 12 hours... we could do it longer, but I think half the people on this board would go ballistic. ;)

The 4GB microdrive's coming out this fall for real. That's the good/bad thing about many tech-related April Fool's jokes: they're seldom perennial.

I voted for Ed's 1G expansion and readily admit that initially I fell for the 10G Microdrive. In the spirit of April Fool's Day, here is a good read. The top 100 April Fool's Day stories:

Woohoo! As of this posting, I am at 105 vs the "Palm Rulez" defacement at 106. :rock on dude!:

I voted for Ed's 1GB Expansion, but the picture of Rebecca in the Scott eVest article makes a pretty compelling argument. :D

Well, now that won't look near as out of place hanging from the wide white belt of my leopard print leisure suit :rainbowafro:
It's good you guys made the effort to make stuff up, the only other site I noticed doing it was SIGames (who make the Championship Manager games) who did an article on their new Cooking Masters 1 game... I had to think twice about that one as well.
