Started a poll to see if you use screen protectors or not. I think I might be surprised at the results, so vote on!

If you do use a screen protector, write which one, lol I'm looking for a better one that the company I'm using, so that's partially why I'm starting this... hehe

WriteShields here as well. Although I like and have used in the past Brando's.

Fellows WrightRight.

I know they cost more, but it's easy to pick them up at Best Buy, etc.

I'm still using the ones I got from PDA Screen Protectors (http://www.pdascreenprotectors.com) back in the summer of 2001. They are the old-style mylar ones, not the newer G2s.

I use NuShields on my iPaq 1910. I'm pretty happy with them, but they're the only ones I've tried, so who knows, maybe there's something better out there.

I'm going to order Writeshields as soon as I can afford them(hopefully this week). I already have a couple of minor scratches on the screen and I feel so irresponsible!

I've used a G2 and a WRiteShield. Both are great.

I wouldn't recommend the WriteRights though - more cloudy than WriteShields. I'd say too cloudy.

G2s are clearer than the WriteShield, but the WriteShields are easier to put on and cut down the glare.

On my $79 Visor? no, I don't use protectors. On my $300 Dell? you bet.....Brandoshop.

WriteShields, too. I've had one on for 2 months now and it still looks great.

I put one on immediately before I ever even used my new 5455. It costs too much to even take a chance.

I have tried both WriteShields and NuShields. Both are great. The WriteShields seemed to be change the colors slightly, but they have less glare.

The NuShields don't provide glare protection, but they are really clear and I can't hardly tell it's on there (which I really like).

I try to keep a spare just in case I have to exchange my unit so that I'll always have one handy.

Another person using NuShields...I never used screen protectors on my old iPAQ 3635 and after a couple of years it had quite a few scratches on the screen. After reading various reviews, I bought NuShields for my new Axim and have no complaints. It's hard to tell that the cover is even there.

I used a home made getto one until my G2 arrived and I absolutely love it! Dell, Compaq, etc. should partner with one of these companies so that you can have your first one pre-installed. They'd probably partner with Fellows though and then we'd all be stuck (At first) with WriteRights :(

I use the HP ones that I got with my J520. They don't have any adhesive on them and I have only used 3 since I got the unit about a year and a half ago.

I actually don't use screen protectors. I don't know, I just think that my iPaq 3835's screen would become too washed out, and I don't have the patience to buy a whole bunch (over mail-order) and then try to find a good one. Anyway, I've had my iPaq for a year and 4 months, and don't really have any scratches on my screen.

Maybe I'll use screen protectors if/when I get an iPaq 5450, since the transflective screen shouldn't really get washed out too much by a screen protector...

My WriteShields arrived this afternoon, just when PPC Techs said they would. It took me a few minutes to clean my screen and get the WriteShield positioned just right. Once that was done I was in business.

I love the way the screen now feels when writing on it, better than the naked screen. Glare is reduced by about 95%. I would say the color is reduced slightly, not enough to be annoying.

These are very expensive screen protectors, but so far I would recomend them 100%. The key will be how long this first one lasts. If the life is good, I will rate them as one of the best PPC upgrades.

WriteShields...
So, I've got one of those three in one pen/mechanical pencil/stylus units, which I leave on the desk, in stylus mode, so I don't have to pull out my stylus when my e740 is docked... A couple of weeks ago I showed my wife how cool it is, "look, it's a stylus, it's a pen, it's a..." It turns out this may have been a mistake, 'cause she used the pen mode the other day and left it set that way.... Screen protectors are a worthwhile investment.

I'll second everything that you say about the PPCTechs WriteShields. I put my first one on my Jornada 568 on January 20, 2003 and it looks just as good today as it did then. I have even removed, cleaned and reinstalled it (according to the detailed directions that came with them) and can't see that there has been any wear. And I use my PPC two - three hours per day. As you say very expensive, but so far worth it.

Cheers.

I initially used the ones that came with my Viewsonic. Not very nice. I now have the G2 and it does look like there is nothing on the screen. They are hard to put on, however.

There is the "to glare or not to glare" issue. I myself prefer the kind that don't have anti-glare, since you have higher visibility.

Must share how impressed I am with Pocket PC techs though....I put in my order for Writeshields on Monday, and TODAY they are sitting at Fedex waiting for me to pick them up :) Not bad at all. And that was with the express saver shipping(though still not that cheap)!

Once I get them installed I will post my thoughts :)

I just purchased my first PDA, an Axim, this morning. I also purchased a packet of 12 protectors by Beldin that are supposed to deal with glare in addition to scratching for ~19.

Didn't know about this fourm until just now so, better late than never, are there products that function *significantly better or is the Beldin product probably as good as any?

I'll toss my vote in for the WriteShields. Lets see, between abuse from using fingernails to change songs and basic access, mechanical pencils as a quick stylus, and sketching on my pda screen, 3-4 months for a protector life with this abuse is great (I Finally had to remove my old one due to some major scratches on the protector : ). They really cut down on the glare, slightly reduce color transmission (noticable side by side), paper like feeling, and have the effect of increasing viewing angle (due to lack of glare).

Well I for one am to cheap to pay $30 for clear plastic film - I use transparency cutouts for a few cents, works fine.

Cheap and proud of it!

I bought a 10 pack of 9x12 laminating sheets at Wal-Mart for 4 bucks. 1 sheet will make 16 protectors. That's two and a half cents each. The one on my Axim now has been on there for a month and I'm about to replace it.

As a bonus, I cut them different sizes for my E-100, Etrex Legend GPS and I can give them to the needy without denting my budget.
