Could you imagine being able to "beam" a game to a friend, and then just playing it right there and then?

Isn't that sort of piracy?

Not if it was similar to the way you could spawn a copy of Diablo (I think). A spawned copy could only participate in a multiplayer game and only with the person who spawned it to them.

In addition to what Goldkey says, there are all sorts of creative licenses one could make. If wireless-enabled Pocket PCs are sufficiently prevalent, it could be very effective viral marketing. :)

It's good to see that semper:aptus is still alive. For a long time, they hadn't had any new content. That's the site that had the comparative GPS review that led me to get Pocket CoPilot.

Game Boy Advance SP "officially" retail-launched today. Actually tempted to try it out :)

Will be picking mine up this week from EB. Traded my old GB advanced on the new model. With the lighted screen and smaller size, this is a nice addition to my gear bag. The old version although not much larger, needed an external light and a battery pack to be usable, thus not very portable. I got my first GB when I was a senior in HS and still enjoy some of the games (and I just turned 30 this year). Making each unit backward compatible was an act of marketing genius. I know I can play games on my PPC, but there is something to be said for a dedicated machine. Frankly I have never had a PPC with a D pad and button layout that I have found to be superior for gaming.

Check out the handheld version of Wyvern, a pretty popular free MMORPG. It's Java based, so sadly it only works on the Zaurus and the iPaqs (unsure about the Jornada)

That would be really appropriate to play on the Pocket PC. As I recall, the code name for a generation of Palm-Sized PCs or Pocket PCs was Wyvern. :-)

would this really work on a a java enabled pocketpc - it seems to require a program called java webstart.

tried it out and got massive java errors during login. This was using the jeode jvm on an ipaq 3955. Either jeode or wyvern appears to be written for CE, not pocket pc 2002, and it totally messes up the UI of 2002

I've been doing a bit of talking back and forth with the creator of The Kingdom of Drakkar, which is AFAIK the longest continuous running MMORPG in the world right now... it's run for around fifteen years and is still going strong and moving forward! Anyways, the owner is considering a port to pocket PC if he can find qualified programmers to help him with it, as his workload is already enormous.
