If you're a news addict like me, you will LOVE this (even GPRS users):

http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/live_video/asx.asp?er=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/msnbc/sorry.asf&b=&bu=&vu=http%3A//www.msnbc.com/m/lv/a/msnbc5.asp&pu=&cu=&akid=msnbc&op=228&fix=.&0mw=xi1

This is the streaming live feed for MSNBC. Right now, its dead for the night, but should start back up in the morning. If you type it into WMP on your WiFi enabled PPC, you can get streaming MSNBC on there following the war.
NUTS COOL AWESOME SWEET!!!!!
The only problem is that when you choose Open URL... on your PPC, you cannot paste :( so you have to type that whole thing in manually!!! Oh well, just remember to add it to your Mobile Favorites.

On a side note, this is why I love my 5455. My entire campus is covered by WiFi so I can get streaming MSNBC anywhere I go! I love it.

And BTW, I tried streaming this over a bluetooth connection to GPRS on Voicestream.....YES IT WORKS. PERFECTLY. You can now even have streaming MSNBC anywhere you go, 24/7 on your PPC through GPRS. Gotta love that.

ENJOY!!

*Hint* Press Ctrl+V to paste. Just like in your PC.

Yeah, the CTRL+V is not very well documented (it's rarely shown in the menus, as a hint, in manuals, etc), but it does tend to work in almost everywhere within the PPC OS.

Free WiFi at Vandy?

I go to Belmont and we supposedly have it in the library, weak on 1 floor and it doesn't work.

What's the range of the Vandy WiFi?

Supposedly a tech guy in the music dept. here is going to get an access point in his office and it should work fine for the music building and atrium, which would be cool.

i think all of the independent coffee shops (bongo java, fidos, bean central, etc) have free wifi too, but haven't tested it.

I'm just getting a test pattern.
Is it still down, or is it just me?

That's what I'm getting too. I'd really love to be able to get this to work.

First off, it's all secured and u need the Vandy SSID, which I will not be giving out :devilboy: It covers almost all of the indoor buildings and a large percentage of the outside area. I have a hard time finding anywhere that doesn't have it really.

I'm just getting a test pattern.

It comes on and off spontaneously, but I noticed something better....the link I posted is the the MSNBC live Feed #5. I've tried 1-8 and have found feeds on all of them, with 1 always being live MSNBC so far. Just change the link to one of these:

http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/live_video/asx.asp?er=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/msnbc/sorry.asf&b=&bu=&vu=http%3A//www.msnbc.com/m/lv/a/msnbc1.asp&pu=&cu=&akid=msnbc&op=228&fix=.&0mw=xi1
http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/live_video/asx.asp?er=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/msnbc/sorry.asf&b=&bu=&vu=http%3A//www.msnbc.com/m/lv/a/msnbc2.asp&pu=&cu=&akid=msnbc&op=228&fix=.&0mw=xi1
http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/live_video/asx.asp?er=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/msnbc/sorry.asf&b=&bu=&vu=http%3A//www.msnbc.com/m/lv/a/msnbc3.asp&pu=&cu=&akid=msnbc&op=228&fix=.&0mw=xi1

You can probably see that all you change is the ".../a/msnbc#.asp..." to some number between 1 and 8. Sometimes, they are straight SAT hookups from Iraq. I've seen a reported putting on his makeup before giving a report. You can see the stuff they don't want you to see, its really great. ENJOY!

Bueno! msnbc1 seems to be the most active (Main broadcast?). Am I the only one that gets about a 1 inch by 2 inch rectangle picture? So much screen space wasted.

Make up? By the reporters in the field? Bet the Marines are having fun with that one...Or is it just the studio reporters?

Is this the MSNBC feed in general or about the Iraq was specifically? The one feed that worked seemed to be night vision footage.

Steve

P.S. Please don't post long links "naked". The board software doesn't wrap them, and it resets the margins for the whole page, forcing horizontal scrolling. Use the URL tags, like this:

[url=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/live_video/asx.asp?er=http://www.msnbc.com/m/mw/s/msnbc/sorry.asf&b=&bu=&vu=http%3A//www.msnbc.com/m/lv/a/msnbc5.asp&pu=&cu=&akid=msnbc&op=228&fix=.&0mw=xi1]
MSNBC news feed
[/url]

The above looks like the following when posted:

See how much nicer that is? :-)

It's Windows CE, so I'd expect most Windows shortcuts to work. In fact, when they don't work, that bothers me.
