It's true! The British public get dumped on! I have just recently purchased a PPC and have only just begun to use this forum.
My point is that you huys in the US are INFINITELY better off than us Brits!! I have been asking around for prices of various things (e.g. compact flash) and everything is sooo much more expensive here! For instance how come 256Mb of CF (Viking) on the amazon.com website is $62.99 whereas it is £59.99 on the amazon.co.uk - thats about 30% difference!!
Any other Brits think we pay through our nose whilst our American brethren pay what I deem a reasonable amount?

What would be the price difference if you ordered from the US and had it shipped over?? Would the added cost of importing and shipping still be less than what you would normally pay? I only ask as a possible solution.

Volume baby Volume!!!
We Canadians also pay outrages prices for some PCC products and accessories. For example at HandheldCanada a SimpleTech(not even Viking) 256MB CF card is $109.99 CDN!!! And with our exchage rates it's insane to buy products from the US or the UK.

I tried buying from the states before. It was a radio controlled nitro car. Admitedly a larger item than a CF card but it cost me £75 shipping and £48 import tax.....shocking!

Amazon.com won't even ship electronics to Canada. Amazon.ca only offers Books and Music at the moment. Add the shipping and Customs charges and you are looking at BIG bucks over and above the original cost.

your best bet is getting things off ebay and having the declared value be very low, much lower than what you paid for the product. of course, this might not be legal but the US was begun avoiding English laws. you can fancy yourself a modern john hitchcock. not that I condone not giving as much as possible to support your government.

For some reason, things always seem to cost more in the UK. Look at cars, a clasic example.
I just got an Audi A4, the price here is the same number of dollars as it would be pounds in the UK.
Other than the cellphone issue (all of the US carriers SUCK and of course you get better phones in Europe) we seem to be better off this side of the Atlantic.

What you need to get is a friend in the American military. I just came back from spending 3 years stationed in Sardegna and while I was over there had very litle problem getting electronics shipped to my FPO address.

I've thought this for quite some time. I was recently after an Ambicom Wifi CF card, around $35 including mail-in rebate from CompUSA. The cheapest Wifi CF in the UK is £65, so approx $105. 8O
At the very least it's dollars-for-pounds, meaning that way pay 30% minimum more than the US. Fuel prices are another classic, if you took a look at what we pay for petrol you'd never suspect we're actually an oil-producing country! :devilboy:
I've found the same with countless bits for my motorbikes, aftermarket accessories are always more abundant and cheaper in the US. So I quite often get parts shipped over and take the risk on the import tax (only had to pay it once and even then the item still worked out cheaper!). :D
Its not just with prices that we get shafted either, customer service is pretty much non-existent in the UK but for the most part US CS is way superior. Not only that, I think people in the US are more vocal when they experience bad customer service, we brits tend to just take it on the chin and say nothing. :|
Rant over!

"John Hitchcock"?!?!?
Wasn't he buddies with George Wallingford, Benjamin Frankfort and Thomas Jonsered?
Or maybe you were thinking of Alfred Hancock, well-known suspense film director??
