View Full Version : Can I safely delete these temp files?

I have a PPC Phone Edition. In my Windows/Temp folder there are four files, all with names that begin "OBX..." (OBX6902.tmp, OBXFA9A.tmp, etc.) Three of them are from 3/10 and one is from January. Is it safe to delete these? One of them is taking up a MB of memory.

I'm posting this on a few forums since I haven't figured out yet which one will give me the best response - sorry if the duplication bothers anyone.

Thanks,
eBoy

Since they're .tmp, they should be fine to delete. Just make sure you've closed all your running programs first. I regularly clean out my Temp folder.

Note that there are some very large files in \Windows, and you should not delete those.

I usually back up the files somewhere just in case. If I don't see any issue after a week or so, then I'll assume that I'm safe.

A few months ago I had removed some files from my root directory and the discovered later that I could no longer connect successfully to AS. Upon further inspection, I had deleted files critical to connection manager settings. Luckily, restoring the files from a backup allowed my PPC to function normally again.

Agreed about non-temp files, although I don't think you should have to backup explicit temp files. (Of course, if necessary you should backup your Pocket PC in general, but that's a different point.)

You're right. You shouldn't have to backup explicit temp files. I guess I don't automatically trust developers to always do the right or obvious thing.

I was quite amazed that files critical to your connection manager would be placed right in your root directory (of all places) with no obvious way of restoring them...
