My family and I are planning a trip to Europe this fall, and since I have this new fancy Axim I thought it would be great to use it for maps, etc. It sounds like I need to first install an application like Streets & Trips 2003, then I can install Pocket Streets to use. Then it sounds like I can download some maps off the Internet of European cities we will be visiting. Does all that sound right so far? (I do need the Streets & Trips, right?)

Then, on some information I read somewhere, it says to run Pocket Streets you need to have Windows CE version 2.11 or higher? Or doesn't that apply to a Pocket PC? My main question: Will it work on an Axim?

Sorry if these are basic questions, but I'm still new to all of this. Thanks!

...will run on your PPC. The big problem is maps. You need AutoRoute in order to create maps for European locals. Countries include... Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Unfortunetly, AFAIK you can NOT buy AutoRoute in the US.

MS has some maps available for download on the Pocket Streets site for a few major cities. These maps are for Pocket Streets 2003/2002 only...

IMHO, Streets & Trips is a good deal, particularly since you can create custom maps of anywhere in the US and Canada for use on your PocketPC. You can get Streets & Trips 2003, which includes Pocket Streets 2003, for $14.90 or so at Sam's Club after the Sam's Club rebate. Other retailers may have similar deals...

Thanks for the info.! I take it, then, from your post that I won't be able to get Auto Route, but Streets and Trips will work. We obviously have other maps to work from, but since I'm going to take my Dell to journal for the trip I thought it would be fun to use it for maps. I guess I'm not ready to depend on my PDA for our only maps. But, I think I'll give it a go and see how well it works.

MS used to allow that - but I think they've stopped it now. A real shame. :worried:

...over-there, so to speak, maybe they could buy you a copy of AutoRoute and mail it back to you here in the US...

If you are willing to spend a little, TomTom is a mapping capability that really is European based. And they'll let anyone buy it.
