<a href="http://www.ppcsg.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17476">http://www.ppcsg.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17476</a><br /><br />Little information except the words "JVC Multimedia Software Paket," some sketchy specs - "ARM PXA 255 400Mhz, 64MB RAM ,32MB ROM, Transreflective 3.5 screen pouces, Dual SD/CF Slots" and a few pictures taken at CeBIT.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20030317-jvc.jpg" /><br /><br />Just having the new PXA255 should help matters greatly as it as the 200MHz bus rather than the 100MHz bus current X-Scale Pocket PCs have.

looks a bit too tall.

Could just be the photo though.

I'm a little leary. I have never had any JVC item work without a hitch.

Always delighted to see new PPC models, but ..

Why the 'eighties' look?

Wow if those corners and edges were any sharper I could cut myself on them. Personally I think we should cut JVC a little slack simply because, AFAIK, this is their first endeavor into the PDA realm but for god sake guys put a little work into its design! One thing to note though. Am I imagining things or is there dual speakers on that sucker? 8O Also it looks as if it has two notches on the top are for a flip cover. Nice. :way to go:

I think you're right! It does look like duel speakers, and I can't think of anything else those notches could be for...

About time!!!

I'm just hoping that's a mock up prototype, fugly design and hopefully will change, but JVC usually makes pretty good stereos and TV's.

We had a JVC VCR from 1985 when I was younger. It was then passed down to me and I later sold it to a friend of mine...he still uses it. Of course, I'm sure a ppc in 17 years will be a bit dated/

The image certainly looks distorted to me (or maybe it's the angle). The screen is way too tall and narrow for standard Pocket PC.

Lighten the picture and it comes to life. I don't think it looks all that bad! Once you lighten the image, the screen size looks like a 3.5 inch screen. You can also see the hinges and speakers better.

Probably this is the same thing from this news article (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,109672,00.asp) at PCWorld.com.
JVC is also showing a preproduction pocket PC with 64MB of onboard RAM, a USB port, and built-in Wi-Fi for connecting to a home network. Along with the expected Pocket PC functions (such as calendar, e-mail, and personal digital assistant tools), the company is touting the new unit's capacity to act as a streaming media server, but only for JVC camcorders with MPEG4 video.

The PocketPC has an audio/video remote for home theater setups and a remote for controlling digital video cameras. It's expected to ship this summer with a street price $649.

I saw this machine at CTIA Wireless 2003 in New Orleans today. It was pretty and shiny and locked in a glass case. At least I got to spend some time playing with the new Sprint Pocket PC Phone edition device with a built in camera. I asked Dale Coffing a few questions about the Sprint device and he said he hadn't had much time to play with it. He had not even touched the JVC in the window. By the way, this conference was overrated and overpriced for Pocket PC enthusiasts.
