Are you happy with your E740?

MY opinion in that question is.....no. It was a tough battle and the e740 was a good Pocket PC but sadly, the battery......sucks. It does really bad. It looks like you plan on using WiFi and bluetooth so here's the heads up on battery life. One hour with WiFi. I didn't try blutooth so I don't know what to tell you there.

So Reinaldo
is it good to wait for the E750 or buy some thing else.
Thank you very much,

I have an e740, and I would agree about the battery. If the e750 uses the same hardware/software for the battery, I would look to another unit. I've had 2 unwanted 1% problems that included losing all data (except for the flash rom, of course).

I am on my second ppc. My first was a Fujitsu Loox 600 and I had that for about 6 Months before getting a Tosh e740. The tosh out guns the loox in all quarters! Better screen, better feel and the wifi! Why does anyone bother with bluetooth? I have come to the conclusion that Bluetooth is as strong a networking protocol as infrared! (Not that infrared is a networking protocol, but you know what I mean - BT is a comms protocol that should be restricited to a device and its peripherals, not multiple devices.) Battery life on the Tosh isn't great but that's why they built it with a replacable battery rather than a fixed one. If your are on the road a lot and need power, get a battery extender or a solar collector.
After the tosh was patched up to date, the speed difference was incredible! It made the loox look like an amateur effort. This is not to flame the loox too much - it was good enough to make me want another ppc. When the loox comes of age, then I might get another one - but I am really, really impressed with the tosh!

localhost - How long have you had your e740. The reason I ask is that I would have answered the same as you after having my ppc 2 months. But now that it's been about 6, and I've started having battery problems, I can't say the same now. The battery problems are a huge problem with the unit. I had no problems for some time, but now they are a regular occurrence with me and many other users.

I like my Toshiba e740. My battery seems to last just fine.

I'm referring more to the 1% and unwanted resets. These are documented well, among even those that had been having no problems and then, poof, it happens to then. It sounds like its destined to happen to all e740, just give it time.

I'm very happy with mine. Let's remember just how much this unit offers, SD and CF, built in WiFi, the nice slim form factor, price (especially after the $100 rebate). The more we ask of our PPC's the less battery life we are going to get, that's a fact. Sure a battery that last 8hrs could be developed but would that do to the cost. With all the cable options out there, unless you are camping you are almost always close to a power source.

Again, I'm referring to the 1% problems and hard resets. If I wasn't having these problems (and up until recently I wasn't), I would agree. Lets see how many are happy with 3 unwanted resets in 1 week. And I know from the many forums I not unlone - and Toshiba won't help us. Yea I got a new battery from them, but the same problem.

While Bluetooth is capable of networking, it's primary function is as a wireless replacement for serial cables (USB cables, serial cables, etc.). So comparing it to IR is not that off-base. IR is also a replacement for serial technology.

In having my laptop and my PPC sync and communicate, WiFi may be faster, but BT is much more practical for work/mobility purposes as it drains minimal battery and doesn't require a WAP (it was designed for peer-to-peer).

As for the E750, I've heard initial reports that the battery is quite good. So perhaps there is much more changed under the hood than it appears.

I have had the 1% problem once, resulting in loosing all data. I think the cause was leaving it on charge over night as I have not had it again. I tend to run the battery flat (actually till I get the 25% warning)before I charge and the problem seems to have cleared up. I am hoping that my backup battery is ok as I am going to get either a new small battery or one large one (that wifi drains the power!) Friend of mine bought a Dell rather than a Tosh - man those things are big!

I am very happy with mine. CF flash, sd card, Built in wifi. USB host. I have not seen a battery diffrence when compared to my ipaq when I had awifi card in. I have used several diffrent ipaq models and find the toshibia to be a supoerior product.

No I am not, I sold a Compaq 3600 series to buy the e740. It's been back for repair of the 1% problem once and I now have the problem again. If I let the battery run down, all data is lost immediately. After charging and restoring, wifi refuses to work. It's over two weeks now and no set of configurations seem to make a differende

I read the responses and get the feeling that since the e740 offers so much I should be satisfied eventhough I have some problems. I am of the opinion that the problems I am having cause the unit to be a POS. It has been back for the 1% problem. I recently had it again. I did a hard reset and now I cannot get wifi to work out of the cradle. I would not suggest that anyone buy the e740 until Toshiba recognizes that the unit has major problems and offers a good trade in for those of us who have put up with these problems for a year or so.
