View Full Version : This is why I will stick with iPAQs

I have an old 3635 which is still under warranty with a Carepaq. I called yesterday afternoon because it was giving me trouble; this morning my new iPAQ was delivered to my door. This level of service is consistent with my experiences before I purchased the Carepaq, and does not seem to have suffered from the HP/Compaq merger.
The iPAQs have their share of reliability issues, there are cheaper brands out there, and I hate ActiveSync (the weak link in the PocketPC world). Having a company stand behind their product even after the specific model has been discontinued is worth a lot though, and when the day comes to replace the 3635 I will look to HP first.
Okay, this all runs too contrary to my usual cynical criticisms. End of rant.

What model did you get as a replacement?

It's another 3635. An upgrade would have been nice but I doubt that will happen until they use up their backstock.

It's the same reason why I chose the hp/Compaq Tablet PC. hp service and support for their devices are the best. Also, I know that they won't disappear in a year or two like some other companies.

Yup, I understand. I was in the final month of my 1-year warranty for my 3835. I decided to look my iPaq over and see what could be fixed. Well, the backlight was inconsistent and the power button was certainly busted. I sent it in. Initially my experiences were frustrating. I had to send the unit right back b/c their backlight "fix" rendered it useless. They sent me back a "like-new" refurbished unit (with a brand new scratch-free screen) with a faulty battery that would completely drain after one-day of non-use. I had to send that back in 3 times (each time they said the unit passed all diagnostics and didn't require any changes) before someone finally agreed to escalate the issue.

Well, finally my unit arrived with everything running perfectly before I proceeded to lose my unit on an airplane (DOH!!). I was bummed and started to research online which PPC unit I'd buy next, but before I could complete that, HP Customer Service called and said that b/c of my troubles (with their repair service), they're willing to swap my 3835 for a 3870. I said that's wonderful, except that I lost the unit. The HP guy said, "hmmm.... well, as a courtesy for your troubles, I'll go ahead and send you a refurbished 3835" and he simply requested that I "consider HP in the future" when making my next PPC purchase.

Well, I didn't get a 3835... I got a 3870!! It's been running perfectly for the past 3.5 months!! Hard to beat that kind of dedication to customer service.

I guess I need to finally send in the warranty for my unit and then proceed to trash it?
