View Full Version : Maybe this is a stupid question but... CF to SD adapter

Why does nobody make a CF to SD adapter for use with PDA's like Toshiba's e310? Is it not possible? Not worth it?

Just wondering. Getting tired of waiting for the SD Wifi card.:(

After what I just learned about SDIO and such, you may wait all that time and it still may not work :twisted:

I f'ing hate Toshiba at this point. I bought the E330 for its SDIO capabilities. It's not true SDIO (or at least the SDIO Now! standard)...

I waited for their BT card, got it, and the damned thing just plain doesn't work. It conflicts with Activesync (if you can possibly believe that!) and after twiddling with it for two hours, it was an overall pain in the posterior. To hell with it. I'm getting an Axim and my experience with this card just solidified it.

Now I just have to save up some bucks.

Can you get a card that does the reverse?
i.e.: SD/MMC -> CompactFlash slot

Yep. Here's one (http://www.mittoni.com/securedigital/adapter.html)

Just take note that the Mittoni SD-to-CF adapter is not a flush adapter. About 40% of the card will stick out of the slot. I did hear they were working on a flush adapter, but it would be Type II, not Type I. The only maker I know of to make a flush Type I adapter is Panasonic and those units can only be obtained in Japan AFAIK.

To clarify... I am looking for the exact opposite of this. My PPC has an SD slot and I was wondering if there was an adapter so I could buy a CF Wifi card and use it in my SD slot.

Sorry about that. I've never seen that :-)

This really sux. If this is true I don't know what to do. Guess I'd have to go iPaq as my work won't support the Dells. At least not right now.

You'll probably never see such a thing. While memory cards are adaptable, SDIO and CF have fundamentally different electrical interfaces.

That's an expensive alternative... I feel your pain. I ordered my Axim this morning. I couldn't be bothered. I love my Toshiba, but if I can't expand it unless Toshiba comes out with a card (and even then it may not work, which was evidenced by my BT experience) then I'm right back at square one. :roll:

Hopefully my Dell experience will be better...
