Note that this is the GSM version, not the CDMA version, but that makes sense as the CeBIT is in Germany. I'd expect the CDMA specs to be very similar. Now let's just hope it comes out soon... the specs look fantastic.

I've been waiting for months for this PPC/Phone to come out. I hate having to carry a phone and a PPC around. Can't wait.

No Bluetooth, no sale. Pretty cool unit. But no cigar.
How about a PPC version of the SGH-i500 (http://www.samsung.com/Features/TechnologyLeadership/Exhibition/cebit2003/product/mobile/img/SGH-i500.swf) It's a PalmOS 5 device but it has a 320x320, 32mb ram and a 300mhz Xscale with SDIO so they should be able to make something similar in a Pocket PC version.

I think what you want is the Samsung SCH-i600 (http://www.samsungelectronics.com/wow/product/product_I600.asp). It's a clamshell type CDMA mobile phone with the Microsoft® Smartphone operating system. Similar to the i500, but based on Microsoft OS rather than Palm.
Now, cross your fingers and hope that it is announced at CTIA this month. But don't hold your breath...

Just to expand on dlipetz, the reason a clamshell Pocket PC Phone would be so hard to do is because of the large (320x240) screen. That would be one very large clamshell. Smartphones have a smaller display for this very reason.

I originally gave up Sprint because they were dragging their feet on a Pocket PC PE. I had planned to switch back to Sprint when the CDMA i700 came out. Now it looks like T-Mobile/GPRS will stand a good chance to keep my business.
Too bad the hardware is lacking, Sprint's voice quality truly was noticeably clearer.

Notice that the specs say 'usb' right next to SDio and IRDA. That doesn't mean it has usb host capabilities, does it? Probably just it connects to your usb port...
Also interesting that it has 64MB RAM and ROM... I wonder how much of the ROM is user-accessible...

No I think he really is talking about an SGH-i500 I had to look twice because the specs did look PPC-ish not like Palm at all.

Well it's just too large for me, about the same size as the XDA. www.MSMobiles.com has this picture of a phone edition that might be more manageable:

I love the size of my SPV but the larger screen would be nice.
They are also reporting (and I've heard elsewhere) that Samsung has dumped SmartPhone for Symbian but they will be making Phone Edition.
They have a bunch of photos from CeBit, including one of an 802.11 SD card plugged into an iPaq.

The i500 actually has a 320x320 screen for palm OS so 240x320 shouldn't be a problem.

The problem with the SCH-i600 is that's it's CDMA and SmartPhone OS on a much smaller screen. If Samsung can produce a 320x320 Palm OS Xscale device in a small clamshell why not a full Pocket PC OS in a similar form on a GSM network.

I hadn't heard this, but surmised the same thing in another post on this forum.
The Samsung SCH-i600 seems to have died on the vine so to speak. Not a peep about it months. Not from Microsoft, not from Samsung, not from Verizon. Been FCC approved since last August.
Then Samsung invests in Symbian... Was hoping for something at CeBIT or CTIA. Still a glimmer for CTIA, but I sense that it won't be.

It's not the resolution, it's the aspect ratio. A "tall and narrow" screen would totally screw up the dimensions. Imagine the i500 with a lot of border on both sides of the screen...

Too bad this thing has the old XScale.

I was thinking that too. But the old XScale is not that bad. :)

Samsung i-700 is also named "MITS M400".
it has CDMA, Built-in TV Tuner, Built-in GPS Navigator..
i think i-700 is another version of this M400

ok so now that it's fairly obvious we're going to have a CDMA 1xRTT version as well as a GSM GPRS the next big question looms.. who will carry it? I know Sprint will carry the CDMA version but who has rights to the GSM? In the US i mean.. also.. wouldnt the CDMA version be a better deal because theoretically 1xRTT is faster and also because of the fact that Sprint has unlimited data while data with the GSM carriers is ridiculously priced? Thoughts? Comments? Either way this is the best thing since sliced bread.. and with SDIO, i don't wanna see any posts about it missing BT or WiFi

Oh most definetly waiting for Sprint to get one. I have had the option to get a GPRS PPCPE for quite some time now but have not.
1. the xda (or what ever you want to call it) isn't that great of a PPC
2. GPRS is slow.
3. GPRS is expencive. Sprint has unlimited data plan (which i currently have and use like mad with a data cable)
4. I already have sprint service, no need to change anything.
The only problem that i have is the waiting...

I work at Verizon Wireless, and in January the head of marketing for the West area showed me a list of upcoming phones at a company rally. I showed her my 3850 with the aircard and asked about any upcoming pocket pcs. She showed me a pic of the i700 and said it should be out in March. I can't wait to get one of these!

I spoke with a lead Verizon marketing guy on the data side. He said the same thing, although he wasn't sure it would be in March.
